Review: Alert house-heads worldwide. Couldn't possibly avoid their fantastic and innovating releases on the US labels Viva, Westbound and Lowdown. Only a couple of months ago the Seattle based duo Peter Christianson and Carlos Mendoza, (aka Lawnchair Generals), were responsible for remixing Swirl People's biggest record of the year "We Used To Party" featuring the all-round Chicago DJ Heather. 2005 promises much for LCG, kicking off the year with this highly anticipated two-tracker "You Got To/Stop Frontin", due out in February. It represents their first international release and is a very natural fit on the widely celebrated Aroma Records and is stated by many insiders to be their best work to date.

Review: Trax, the original home of house music, gave birth to the biggest movement in club music since the dawn of disco. The famous Chicago house label, started in the early 1980s by Larry Sherman and Vince Lawrence, is responsible for the release of "Acid Tracks" by Phuture, "Move Your Body" by Marshall Jefferson, and many other records that shaped the Chicago and acid house sounds through till the early 1990s. We are proud to present this first series of 20 classic reissues coming out before summer. It features records by groundbreaking artists such as Jamie Principle, Adonis, Joey Beltram - all in their much sought after original versions - next to astonishing remixes by icons like Basement Jaxx, Claude Young, The Advent & more.

Review: It is hard to believe this EP is now more than 15 years old, because it certainly doesn't sound like it. It is one of literally hundreds of Omar S tunes that has more than stood the test of time for the way it so beguiling blends cold machine sounds and mechanical rhythms with irresistible synth craft. 'The Further You Look The Less You Will See' is all low-fi low end minimalism and glowing melodic warmth. 'Tecky Alexander' is a playful take on that with jittery rhythms and poppy melodies that allow your mind to wander and get lost in the subtly shifting loops. Perfection.

Review: Detroit heavyweights Omar S and Theo Parrish link up for a one-track release that lives up to its bold title. 'The Grand Son Of Detroit Techno!' stretches over ten minutes of raw, hypnotic movementidusty drum programming, looped keys and a low-slung groove that simmers with intent. Omar S keeps the arrangement locked and heads-down, while Theo's unmistakable fingerprints surface in the swung percussion and deep jazz-inflected textures that evolve across the track's longform structure. It's a meeting of minds that feels completely unforced, rooted in lineage but defiantly forward-facing a release that speaks in fluent Motor City dialect without ever turning nostalgic. Unapologetically stripped, functional and soulful.

Review: Jay Shepheard is a new name from the UK who had his first release on the Sounds Like Soul imprint run by fellow Juno Records employee Adam Roberts. "Compost Black Label 19" is a nice four track EP that combines influences from Italo disco, US, deep and acid house, vintage techno and the modern minimal sounds. John 'Jay' Shepheard fell in love with electronic music in the 90s when his older sister introduced him to pirate tapes from the London rave scene. This affection even flourished with an encounter with jungle and UK garage. Naturally decks and a sampler came next as Jay become immersed in this fascinating new world of sounds. Soon Jay advanced into the inner spheres of the music business. Besides starting a career at the online record store Juno, he worked as club DJ, press officer and studio hand at south London based 'Studio 207', used by acts like Basement Jaxx and Mutiny. His studio skills soon benefited from the exposure at '207' and a year or so later his first releases came out under the alias John Julian (first and middle names). Compost Black label presents a really nice release here.

Review: Son Of Raw's 'A Black Man In Space' is the biggest Objectivity release yet. Take your pick: Original (big like original Son Of Raw 12") or sax mix (reminiscent of Quentin Harris' 'Haunted'). Watch this blow - it's massive.

Review: ** REPRESS ** As the name suggests the groove of Soundhacks's Soundstream 12" is a bit less hard cut-up styled but more floating. This doesn't necessarily mean a lack of energy, funk and fun. Expect peak hour house tracks in full effect. Do not expect just another 'French filter house' record. Remember: it is Soundhack who is in charge here. Full satisfaction guaranteed!
