Review: Frightnrs are considered one of Daptone's best artists but they have put out any new music since 201 after the tragic passing from ALS of the front man, Dan Klein. That wrong is righted here with Always, a new posthumous long player that comes on nice red and blue splatter vinyl. As fans would expect, it is a raw and soulful offering from the Queens-based reggae outfit that has been built around vocal stems that Klein recorded before his death. It forms a fitting final album from this outfit who also did more than reggae revivalism by adding elements of Motown, doo-wop, Blues and gospel.

Review: Mikey Dread was a legend of reggae as a producer, DJ and singer, who gained international fame for working with The Clash on 'Bankrobber' and mixing dub versions for their Black Market Clash and Sandinista! albums. Through his Dread At The Controls label he released reams of incredible dub and roots reggae himself, with World War III surely one of the highlights. With the Roots Radics as the backing band and the likes of Earl Sixteen and Watty Burnett on backing vocals, the cast of characters is steeped in reggae's golden era, and sure enough the sound is as good as you'd expect. This welcome reissue comes on yellow vinyl - a beam of sunshine as uplifting as the riddims carved into the grooves.

Review: Brown Sugar, formed in 1976 and made up of teenage soul darlings Pauline Catlin, Caron Wheeler and Carol Simms, recorded their breakout lovers' rock single 'Black Pride' in a period when racial tension in the UK was at its most rife. Brought to Denis Bovell's time-honoured Lovers Rock label, it was one of the many reggae releases that defined the eponymous substyle. Now a black 12" repress comes to 1000 lucky first-come buyers.

Review: The almighty Trojan label is back with a bumper collection of superb sounds from its vast and peerless back catalogue. This collection brings together plenty of roots and lovers rock rollers across four sides of vinyl. There are plenty of super sweet sounds you are sure to know as well as some you won't and they are all primed and ready for extra loud deployment on sound systems this summer. Highlights are too plentiful to mention but the vocal innocence of Brown Sugar and heart melting harmonies of The In Crowd are amongst them.

Review: The Liquidator Music crew have been putting out classic Jamaican rhythms ice the mid-cities and still goes strong. This is an all new one from Jamaican act Roy Ellis who sings over his backing band, Cosmic Shuffing, from Switzerland. They are acclaimed in ska and rock steady circles for good reason and help bring these tunes to life. 'Shine Your Light On Me' is an easy going roller with lo-fi drums and dusty riffs that hook you in while Ellis does his work up top. 'Merry-Go-Round' then cuts loose on a summery and swirling vibe with conversational lead trumpets and natty chords.

Review: Recorded at Channel One Recording Studio in Kingston Jamaica and featuring the one and only Sly and Robbie, Innocent Lover was a 1979 classic from Trevor Hartley. Phil Pratt took care of the production and Tommy McCook and Ansel Collins also line-up on what is a super smooth selection of reggae rollers. The production is earthy and organic, with subtle effects fleshing out rach instrumental as Hartley's buttery vocals ring out up top, mostly musing on themes of love, romance and heartbreak.

Review: Barcelona based label La Panchita has been turning out silky dub sounds since 2015. This time out they offer a fresh, digital-edged package from Tribase with clean synths and steely drums. 'Wicked Man' is a heavy and off-kilter one with mystic leads. 'Selekta' gets a little more dark and heavy, with drilling bass nocturnal synths while the remix takes on an even more metropolitan edge and sense of urban menace. Last of all is 'Wicked Man' (dub version) to offer something airy and heady.

Review: As the months warm up we all tend to lean towards the warm and fleshy sounds of dub, which makes releases like this one on Newentun all the more crucial. 'Sugarman' is a classic bit of lovers rock with those earthy guitar plucks, big wood block hits and steel drum sounds. The vocal is silky smooth and full of yearning while heat damaged organs and lazy harmonica further flesh things out. The Ska version has a more clipped and swiping rhythm with a great height to it and then the Jonas Sanchez Trombone Version has big fat wind leads that scream summer.
