  1. Peter Abdul & The Abeng Musical Box - "Inflation" (2:55)
  2. Russ D In Front Room Studio - "Inflation" (Dubwise) (2:57)
Review: Italian label Dig This Way serves up a third sizzling offering, this time featuring Nigerian singer Peter Abdul. He does his heart aching work over a solid rhythm from Abeng's Musical Box and the results are steeped in romance and yearning. A flip side dub from Russ Disciple is also well worth checking for its smart effects and fathom deep bass. Abdul is a relative unknown but for his 1984 album Get Down With Me, which head in a more boogie and funk direction. Regardless, this is a tasty dub, make no mistake.

  1. Jonny De Ambassador - "Country Boy" (4:16)
  2. Krabah Aka Daniele Cesarotti - "Country Dub" (4:14)
Review: Dig This Way Records is back with a second sizzling 7" release, and this time it's a brand new collaboration with Italian-Jamaican label Tebel. It features Jonny De Ambassador and Abeng (Claudio SugarCube) as well as a serious group of musicians. "Country Boy" is well schooled in classic dub and ska, but comes with some slick contemporary flourishes in the form of production techniques and some groggy riffs. The vocals are lazy and louche, the drums cut deep and vibes are pure sunshine. The dub on the flip is even more roomy and horizontal for those lazy afternoons in the park.

I Know (limited 7")
Cat: DTWS 005. Rel: 07 Jul 20
Roots/Lovers Rock
  1. Keithus Dimts Selassie I & The Royal Horses - "I Know" (3:46)
  2. Roberto Sanchez Meets The Royal Horses - "I Dub" (3:45)
Review: Talented singer Keithus Dimits Selassie I has a deep emotion to the tone and message of his music. It is perfect for more spiritual dub sounds and that's the case here. His interpretation here rides nicely on the lazy rhythm below, with acoustic riffs dancing in mid air above puddles of echo. On the flip, Roberto Sanchez stepped up at Lone Ark studios to craft his own slow motion version that is a perfect partner for the a-side. This is a serious piece of 7" wax that packs a punch on many levels.

Oyoetigbe: The Birth Of A Child
  1. Ukhiokhio (8:28)
  2. Omoto (8:52)
  3. Iyereghe (8:54)
  4. Enothiomwani (8:32)
Review: The second salvo from "forgotten music" specialists Dig This Way Records takes us back to 1988 and the synthesizer and drum machine-driven Highlife antics of obscure outfit Ode-Omore Osarenren & Ewaen Osetin Stars. Even by the standards of Nigerian music, it's an obscurity, but also pretty special. Check, for example, the clicking machine drums, group vocals and exotic synthesizer lines of opener "Ukhiokhio", the gorgeous guitars, whistling synth melodies and percussive breeziness of "Omoto" and the trumpet-laden tropical brilliance that is closing cut "Enothiomwani". The set's most endearing quality is undoubtedly its inherent positivity, something that's only enhanced by the band's use of sparkling synthesizer sounds.

Spell Bound (Beware Of Magic Charms)
Cat: DTWM 02. Rel: 26 Oct 21
  1. Spell Bound (Beware Of Magic Charms) (6:57)
  2. Revolution (Work Hard In Your Life) (4:54)
Review: The Dig This Way label outta Italy continues to build a fine head of steam with its stomping second disco release. 'Spell Bound' comes from PSK, and is taken from their one and only album Disco Season back in 1980. It was the opening track on that album, written by Austine Rigar and Jones Coakly, and is a bright, joyful groove. The big vocals bring exotic international flavours over the funky bass work, trilling drums and afro-tinged rhythms. ON the flip is another tune from that album, 'Revolution (Work Hard In Your Life)' that is all pixelated synth leads, afro-drum patterns and even a hint of ska swagger.

Review: There isn't much info out there about The Springs Band. They released just one album, DiskO Funk, on Fontana and Love Records back in 1977 and copies on second-hand markets dong even exists, which is why Dig This Way Records has put together this fine reissue. Featuring the likes of Botonne Okoye and Funsho 'Tunde on backing vocals, conga and percussion from Gabby Sonny and drums from kechukwu Toni, this is a superb Nigerian funk offering with elements of soul and disco colouring the grooves. The drums are always rooted and raw, the guitars noodle and the patterns proudly Afro. Essential.
