Review: Wordsound founder Spectre's 1998 Ruff Kutz mixtape, originally released on limited cassette, is either an underappreciated experimental hip-hop masterpiece, or a long-forgotten obscurity. Either way, it remains an impressive piece of work - a hazy, stoned, 90-minute journey that joins the dots between ambient, horizontal hip-hop and dub. PAN has decided to give the set the reissue treatment, pressing it on vinyl for the first time. Re-mastered from the original DATs and spread across two heavyweight slabs of wax, it features un-credited contributions from Sensational, Mr Dead, Bill Laswell, Jungle Brothers and Kevin Martin, better known as The Bug.
