Review: Jason Barton is one man, London based experimental project BArTc. Insubstantial As Ghosts is his 14 track debut album and it comes on the label run by Colin Potter, who is well known for weird electronics thanks to his time as a member of Nurse With Wound. Barton has said that influences include Cabaret Voltaire co-founder Chris Watson and industrial legends such as Coil, Skinny Puppy and Einsturzende Neubauten. The music is built in many layers of synths, found sounds and environmental recordings. It results in organic and experimental sounds that are heavily distorted with various effects.

Review: The latest release from Stephen Singleton's shape-shifting Nurse With Wound project showcases two of the long-serving experimental outfit's most intriguing and intoxicating live performances of the last decade. CD one features a 2012 recording in Florence featuring a line-up of Singleton, Paul Beauchamp and Colin Potter. Entitled 'Confluence', it's a hallucinatory, druggy affair in which strange, manipulated samples, alien electronics and discordant guitar textures combine to create unearthly, paranoid soundscapes. Disc two, meanwhile, was recorded at a performance in Karlsurhe in 2013. It features Stapleton, Potter and Andrew Iles delivering a ghostly, foreboding and pagan ambient excursion.

Review: Second time around for Nurse With Wound's 2020 album Opium Cabaret, a set that critics previously compared favourably to some of the Steven Singleton-helmed act's best-loved works, most notably Soliloquy For Lilith. The set certainly has the same atmospheric, otherworldly and tactile feel, with Singleton and collaborators Colin Potter and Andrew Liles delivering epic soundscapes that attempt to translate the opium experience into music via shards of strings, moody chords, crackling samples and alternately blissful and paranoid electronics. This edition doubles the length of the set, with original tracks 'Floating Body' and 'Sleep Sweeping Down' being joined by two others that were recorded during the same sessions. These previously unreleased cuts are similarly framed and executed; in other words, they fit right in.

Review: Back in 2009, Nurse With Wound's Steven Stapleton and Colin Potter joined forces with fellow experimentalists Blind Cave Salamander (Fabrizi Palumbo, Julia Kent and Paul Beauchamp) at Turin's Mutamento festival to deliver a new version of the former's classic album Soliloquy For Lilith. The recordings of the performance were later released as Cabbalism Volumes I &II. This belated sequel is another two-part affair, with a recording of a later joint live performance in (volume three, a creepy, unfurling fusion of ambient, drone, cinematic soundscapes and foreboding electronic noise) being joined by a brand-new patchwork from Colin Potter created using elements of all three live recordings. The latter is particularly potent, with Potter brilliantly distilling the essence of all three performances to create a constantly evolving journey through dark ambient soundscapes.
