When he started his career as Phase Fatale, Hayden Payne was still living in New York and contributing to fellow industrial techno noisenik Dom Febrow's Hospital Productions label. Now based in Berlin, Payne's latest excursion is being released by one of Germany's most storied labels, Ostgut Ton. Naturally, there's no let up in the intensity of Phase Fatale's productions, as intense, foreboding and mind-altering opener "Reverse Fall" - think trancey, psychedelic arpeggio lines, EBM riffs and thunderous beats - emphatically proves. "Incision" sounds like a loving tribute to percussion-loving, dark-side industrial outfits SPK and Test Department, while "Blackbox" and "Empty Whip" take contrasting approaches to industrial techno with equally impressive results.
