The vital Rhythm Section International label keeps it close to home with this new EP. It's a debut offering from Hackney-based Jerome Thomas. He is here to shake up modern soul music having grown up around rare groove, Marvin Gaye, and 90s r&b. He has a buttery smooth voice and often falls into seductive ad libs apparently inspired by listening to Brandy's '98 LP 'Never Say Never' on repeat. He's joined by a live six piece band for this record, which lends it a lively feeling and elements of jazz, soul, funk and more. It's utterly organic from front to back, with tunes for the heart, the head, and the heel all included. One to watch, for sure.
