When Groeni debuted back in 2012, it was a solo project helmed by Kiwi producer Alexander Green. On this ear-pleasing debut album, Groeni has become a trio with the addition of new permanent members Mike Isaacxs and James Paul. From start to finish, the set bristles with intriguing ideas, imaginative arrangements and blissed-out, soft-focus vocals. Rhythmically, the trio takes cues from IDM, post-techno and experimental electronica, smothering their pulsating but gentle beats with woozy electronics and trippy, almost psychedelic guitars. It's a formula that's exceedingly hard to pigeonhole, though some of the resultant songs do share a similar sonic space to late period Radiohead and Thom Yorke's beguiling solo work.
