That's a bold claim to make, but the official release blurb isn't actually pushing things too far with that loaded declaration of the genius behind Ascension Codes, Cynic's long-awaited return to the LP release schedule after a seven year hiatus.
So the last time we met in album form it was on 2014's Kindly Bent to Free Us, and it's fair to say this follow up is both the outfit being reborn, and evolving from that template. Nine central tracks offer operatic metal fanfares and complex, propellant hard rock. Meanwhile, interludes and take outs turn gaps into bridges, and ensure pressing play at track one, and listening all the way through, is a genuinely immersive experience, not to mention a real adventure.
