Review: Pleasure Unit is doing a damn fine job building up a catalogue of discoid deviance from the likes of Skatebard, Lunar Concept and Loose Change, and now it's the turn of debutant project Field Of Dreams to lay down some 80s-tinged grooves for the smoother kind of dancefloor. "Pourquoi" features Queenie, and it shows off the individual heritage the two producers in Field Of Dreams have (one was in 90s chart toppers D:ream no less), all plush chords and slinky grooves with an alluring French vocal thread coursing through the middle. "Draw The Line" is a more synth-rich affair that leans towards the moodier end of acid-tinged disco, and then "Line Drawn" drifts out into Balearic boogie of a dubby nature, providing plenty of variation for the warm up or melt down dancefloor.

Review: Following excellent releases from Skatebard, Les Crocodiles and Lunar Concept amongst many others, Pleasure Unit turn to Cut The Rug crew member Mike Misiu for their latest instalment of cool-headed modern disco. "Do What You Need" sports a Metro Area demeanour, with a classic vocal hook sprinkled in at opportune moments for maximum impact. The dub mix is no less satisfying, even with the famous sample rubbed out, but in fact the real pleasant surprise of this release is B2 jam "Love Talk". With its funky midtempo 90s breakbeat and heavy-hitting piano, it's an addictive party starter that harks back to the acid jazz days while still fitting right into the here and now.

Review: ** REPRESS ** Pleasure Unit is the new label from the excellent Keyboard Masher and it gets off to a fine start here with a selection of reworks from Norwegian producer Telephones that's been issued in conjunction with the Berlin crew Untz Untz. By no means the most prolific of producers, Bergen-based Henning Severud has nonetheless graced the likes of Full Pupp, Sex Tags UFO and most recently The Very Polish Cut-Outs under the Telephones guise so you expect quality. And that's what you get as Severud reworks tracks from Skatebard, Love Nation and Dove Station in his own inimitable style. The lead take on Skatebard's "Confirmation Bias" is a particularly wonderful thing to behold, utilising a whole eight minutes to take flight into what the label quite aptly describe as a long lost Larry Levan remix of Manuel Gottsching's epic "E2 E4".
