Review: A clearsighted modern interpretation of the central Detroit clubland comes by way of Mister Joshooa, an emerging figure in the city's new underground, already known for his dual talents as DJ and sound engineer. Haunting local strait spots like TV Lounge and Lincoln Factory, and having already featured on Carl Craig's Detroit Love compilation, Joshooa's razzly retrovision of Detroit techno, given enough time and effort, could easily qualify him as a modern classic craftsman, should he continue to play his cards right. Elastic basslines, tactile percussions, and moaning, flexed vocals typify 'Settle Down', 'Snake Oil' and 'Step Up', the last of which closes the day on a super weighty machine funk automatism.

Review: US house champion Junior Sanchez lands on the legendary Planet E label here with new remixes of his 'Art-O-Fact' bringing plenty of funk and Motor City house sounds. The Detroit remix opens up and is a deft working of the groove with smart filters and bursts of sparkling arpeggios lighting up the speedy house beats. The Detroit Bass remix is a little heavier and with more low end, as you might expect from the title, and last of all the Detroit Beatless remix is a masterclass is emotive synth work that dances and teases in a cosmic night sky.

The title track, 'Deeplight', sets the wheels in motion with its tribal-driven percussion, gradually building intensity to become a relentless, attention-grabbing force, the hypnotic elements and steady groove making it a standout piece. On Side-2,'Black Dog' takes things further, fusing an exciting blend of house and disco influences with big, pounding techno. The track's floor-filling energy is enhanced by the clever mix of classic genres, resulting in a track that not only keeps the momentum high but introduces a refreshing depth with its dynamic progression. Produced by veteran New York-born Jerome Sydenham in collaboration with the German collective Cosmic Soldier, 'Deeplight' effortlessly blends different techno styles with its own distinctive flair. Both tracks are finely tuned for high-impact performances.
