Heaven Or Hell
Cat: PATH 008. Rel: 17 Nov 15

Techno
Path To Hell (6:45)
Path To Heaven (6:51)
Heaven Or Hell (6:22)
Review: Reade White has many aliases to his name, including Caustic Everything and Fiction Life, but the Fate 258 moniker is the one that has grabbed our attention the most thanks to the excellent Why 2K? EP that came out in 1999 on Path - still a digger's favourite and a gorgeous piece of techno. He's back out of the blue on Path with the dark and molecular sonics of "Path To Hell" on the A-side, followed by the slower and more hypnotic "Path To Heaven", and the wonky sways of electro in "Heaven Or Hell"; both the B-side tunes are the ones for the corner dwellers. Sick; please do not sleep on this.

Rebel Toy (6:05)
Review: This summer Path Records launches its 2017 campaign with freshly recorded material from Reade Truth's "Fate 258" moniker. The "Games With Blades" EP delivers an epic dose of material once again deeply rooted in the mysteriously seductive sci-fi themes the artist and label are well known for. "Games with Blades" visits the dystopian subject matter of the ultra-classic "Bladerunner" and furthers reflection upon its themes of immortality, empathy, and the femme fatale. Much like 1999's highly sought digger-classic "Why 2k" this EP provides an enticingly varied mixture of flavors. Deep and heavy techno, raw and rhythmic house and funkier electro styled breaks are all on display alongside Fate 258's heavy bed of intricate sample-work. Path Records are leaders in the left field, providing dance floors with unique, conceptual future-classics that sublimely push a futuristic vision.

Review: Reade Truth's NYC-based label returns to action with legendary underground producer Richard Hinge's 'Audio Path'. Already well known for his Disko B, Conrail and Hidden Agenda releases, Hinge delivers an excellent EP boasting 3 tracks of electro-influenced techno & arpeggio synth workouts.

The Path (6:24)
The Path (remix) (6:17)

Give Me Insanity (5:30)
Review: New York techno mainstay Reade Truth has skirted around widespread recognition with a long-standing commitment to underground techno approaches recognised by those that know as some of the best in the business. This release sees him dust down the first release on his label Path, 20 years after it originally did the business. It's high time tracks like "The Path" that get a fresh airing - the dynamic, detailed approach to drum programming and warm acid undulations sound as relevant now as they did back then. "319" is a more reflective jam that heads into emotive, moody territory that highlights the breadth in Truth's sound, before "Give Me Insanity" round things up by taking it super-deep thanks to expansive pad sweeps and shimmering hats aplenty.

Without A Doubt (6:27)
Brain Damaged (6:04)
A Secret Heaven (7:50)
Smothered Hopes (6:20)
Review: Reade Truth has been dropping plenty of heat lately on Cartulis and Warm Fiction, but now he's back on his own label Path. There's a lysergic, freaky twist to the strain of electro-techno he's exploring, where the synths bubble and trickle with playful energy while staying rooted in a nocturnal underworld of basement-ready business. "Without A Doubt" is especially captivating on this tip, while the slight move towards melody on "Brain Damaged" is just as welcoming. Watch out for "A Secret Heaven" though - a consummately punchy New York groove garnished with plenty of off-kilter sonic debris.

Electro World (6:03)
Ghosts (7:17)
Review: Read Truth and Jake Reif are Upsetting Keys and the duo had only released one EP back in 2001 under that pseudonym, a single which has been in demand since then. Luckily, the guys have decided to give it a makeover and reissue it for all the contemporary house dancers and outsider fiends. MonoPoly Ghost" is particularly alluring thanks to its beatless sway made up of analogue bleeps and metallic hardware circuitry, but "Electro World" is the one for us, a Kraftwerk kinda number that's heavy on the hypnotics and minimal to the point of perfection. These could have been made yesterday, check 'em!
