Review: Boogaloo Assassins are an LA-based troupe playing Latin boogaloo, salsa, and soul music. Case in point; their latest single here comes as a cover of Dawn Penn's classic reggae song 'No No No', as well as a Roger Rivas dub mix on the B. Interspersed with lyrics in Spanish rollicking salsa melodies and rhythms on piano and shaker , it's certainly a riveting take on the pop standard. Rivas' remix is just as gratifying, coming packed with subtle echoes and springs. Sure to be in hot demand, the single is pressed on translucent red vinyl and is limited to one per customer. Review: Nu Tone and Hi-Tide have worked together on some superb albums and the Boogaloo Assassins classic Old Love Dies Hard is one of them. It came in 2014 and is a vibrant mix of salsa, soul and boogaloo from the Los Angeles-based Latin soul outfit of Charles Farrar, Jr., Chiquis Lozoya and William Purdy who first formed in 2007. This is their one and only album and it took plenty of its inspiration from artists from the then groundbreaking NYC's Latin music explosion of the 1960s. Classics are reinterpreted along the way with a more modern feel and the boogaloo-meets-Beach-Boys romper 'Do You Wanna Dance' is a real highlight.

Review: Staten Island's The Jazztronauts return to Nu Tone with a smooth cruising single which capitalises on the slick fusion style they do so well. There's a reflective, season-shifting mood to 'This Thing Of Ours' which feels perfectly suited to the time of year, whether it's David Giordano's wistful guitar chops or Josh Glazer and Shawn Rhoades' brass section pealing out over the laconic rhythm. 'When It Hits' on the flip is a more sprightly affair which sees drummer AJ Pantaleo setting a snappy pace and Jesse Blum flexing out on the keys, once again maintaining the buttery smooth style the band are so well loved for.

Review: Nu-tone introduces the debut single from Lulada Club here - a superb New York City based all-women salsa orchestra headed up by band co-leader Andrea Chavarro. After two years of live performances, they're finally sharing their music for everyone to dance to and dance you will to these most intoxicating mixes of funk, cumbria, salsa and more. It was recorded live and all-analog at NY Hed Studio by producer Rocio Verta-Wray, and the single comes on random-colour vinyl. Lulada Club emerged in 2022 to fill the gap for women ensembles in NYC's live music scene and co-leader Katherine Ocampo has said their aim is to "provide access to live music, culture, community, and representation for women in music festivals and other spaces."
