Review: Because of the savage delays during the pandemic year, it feels like Record Store Day 2020 has only just finished. But we go again with this year's celebration of all things waxy with another wealth of exciting releases, special editions and reissues (as well as plenty that are less desirable, as per.)
This one is a crucial one though - Mochilla's Timeless series reignites with a recordings from the famed Ethiopian artist when he played with Los Angeles jazz cat veterans. It's an album of visionary echo-jazz from front to back.

Review: This Record Store Day, US label Mochilla are reissuing a record that first landed in 2010 but has been out of print for five years. The Timeless Series captured the enduring impact that various different artists had on the world do ship hop. It is all live music that features orchestrated performances by Ethiopia's great Mulatu Astatke and famous Brazilian star Arthur Verocai. There is also the mesmeric Suite For Ma Dukes, which is a tribute to her son, James "Dilla" Yancey, by Miguel Atwood-Ferguson. What a collection for funk lovers who also appreciate their history.
