Rice Rain
Review: Lank-haired Norse producer Magnus August Hoiberg, better known as Cashmere Cat, signs to the Luckyme label having made his name through Brussels imprint Pelican Fly and a raft of Jersey Club style remixes of LDR, 2 Chainz and Jeremih. A union with the revered Edinburgh label makes perfect sense given the mutated forms of hiphop/club hybridism pioneered by Luckyme over recent years and Cashmere Cat's Wedding Bells EP represents a fine debut. As opening track "With Me" suggests, Hoiberg has an innate talent for snaking club rhythms and delicate melodic, almost poppy touches, whilst "Wedding Bells" is reminiscent of the sort of music Jim Blake was making under the Harmonimix guise. Expect to hear this everywhere!

Wedding Bells (5:01)
Rice Rain (4:27)
Review: Cashmere Cat made quite the splash when he dropped Wedding Bells on LuckyMe back in 2014. In its deft balance of pristine hyper-pop, plaintive classical piano and sneaker-scuffed bass, 'With Me' confirmed his maximalist, misfit appeal in the fine tradition of LuckyMe artists, by going on to work with top tier artists like Ariana Grande, The Weeknd, Sophie, Major Lazer... the list goes on. This small but perfectly formed EP captures a moment in music perfectly, when the past decade of stylistic splintering had left the playing field pleasingly wide open and its more than deserving of a repress ten years on.

Review: Cid Rim returns to Luckyme with Mute City, a sublime five track release that expands on the themes explored on last year's debut self titled album for the Scottish label. The Viennese producer's free jazz past shines through here as the five tracks are filled with the sort of twisting rhythmic complexity that most bedroom laptop producers can only dream of. Taut and distorted drums ripple through opening cut "Fade" which is let a sense of plangent warmth by those fuzzy chords, whilst "Animus:Anima" has the sort of effervescent bounce that you could quite easily put a R&B Acapella over. Those seeking something for the club should head straight to the excellent title track!

Night Tracking
Review: Back on LuckyMe for another round of R&B tinged beats from the next dimension, at this point Montreal's Jacques Greene is certainly a dab hand at matching forward-thinking production with accessible pop tropes. "No Excuse" centres on a heartfelt vocal hook, but all around it fall chunky found sound beats while winsome synths warble overhead. "Feel What" places its own vocal sample in a more distant reverb chamber, letting the snap of the broken beat drums take to the fore of the mix. "Night Tracking" is the more obviously club ready cut with its discernible house thrust, but even then the bewitching melodies spell out a more reflective purpose to this EP.

On Your Side
Faithful
Quicksand
Review: Having been released digitally earlier this year, Jacques Greene's masterful return to Luckyme is granted the vinyl issue the cover art deserves. Listening to this three track EP, it's all too easy to see how far the Montreal based Greene has developed as a producer since he broke through back in 2010 with The Look EP for the Scottish label. If you've been paying close attention to Greene's production work and general direction since then (starting his own Vase label) you'll understand the Canadian is slowly maturing into a producer in the traditional sense, increasingly happy to step behind the buttons and work an arrangement around a vocalist. Such is the case on the title track to On Your Side which features the tremulous vocal tones of How To Dress Well's Tom Krell and "Faithful" which pairs a bubbling acid flecked broken house shuffle with Oliver Day Soul's gospel style delivery. Final track "Quicksand" demonstrates Greene has lost none of his talent for snaking vocal edits and oven warm melodic leads.

Review: Jacques Greene records are as interesting as they are innovative and for this latest essential long player he joins forces with Joel Ford, Satomimagae (RVNG) and Leanna Macomber. It finds the Montreal produce conjuring up floaty breakbeats and lashing of loose, free flowing synths to maker for an idealised club sounds that will be impossible for dancers to ignore. There is fresh spirit in these tunes as well as sedate shoegaze sounds, shimmering pads and super sweet grooves to make any party that bit more special.

Review: Deliciously deep breakbeat bliss from Jacques Green, 'Relay' first handed us the baton back at the start of the year and has been on heavy rotation ever since. Now it returns for a second lap of the track with this exceptional reboot from man of the moment Skee Mask. Bending heads a well as dancefloors, his remix delves deep into the cosmos as the track progresses. What begins as deep and spacious suddenly plunges into multi-dimensional fractured chaos. Let's do another lap.

Tell Me
Review: Luckyme finally deliver Jacques Greene's debut EP on vinyl after pressing issues, and it's quite the looker, with artwork done in part by the mysterious Montreal wonderkid really impressing in full twelve inch glory! Greene is not shy in wearing his unabashed love of R&B on his sleeve, but this EP's roots are firmly in houseU deep Chicago hooks, acid synths and post-garage beats all abound here. Title tune "The Look" is the glossiest of this set - chopping and subtly pitch-shifting vocal lines into something truly anthemic, while basslines and synths pop and gurgle over a clap-based drum track. "Good Morning" goes deep into Detroitisms, fully loaded with tweaked enveloping pads, jacked-up beats and just the right amount of piano. On a future-funky tip, "Holdin' On" layers snapping percussion and garage-patterned beats on top of subtle vocal chops and more epic pads, while the slower "Tell Me" sports a hypnotic arpeggio that'll burrow its way into your cerebellum after just a few minutes listening.

Review: Now a firm fixture in the LuckyMe fam, Montreal's Jacques Greene delivers what could be his biggest cut to date. Ticking every box from UKG to tech by way of soul, there's a silkiness and timeless appeal to the vocals, synths and funk-coded broken drum arrangement that appeals to all DJs from all corners. Meanwhile on the B we have an extended version of "You Can't Deny". Resplendent in its processed R&B vocal hookery and soft padded groove, it's yet another reminder why Jacques resonates with all corners and genres of the globe right now

Review: Given his recent form, it was probably only a matter of time before fast-rising Glaswegian Inkke made an appearance on LuckyMe. Variously informed by grime, heavy Memphis rap, Rustie and Hudson Mohawke, Inkke's productions slip effortlessly into the LuckyMe catalogue. There's much to admire amongst the six tracks that make up Secret Palace, including a pair of robust club instrumentals - "Chores" and "Simmer" - which have long been staples in the sets of Skepta and D Double E. Our pick, though, has to be heavyweight grime roller "Tales From The Quick", which peppers a weighty sub-bass line and machine-gun percussion with woozy synthesizer lines.

Review: Celebrations abound at Lucky Me as the Scottish label look back over some of the key releases that defined the label and the era for so many of us. First up, Lunice's ground breaking 'One Hunned'. Hip-hop in form, cosmic in spirit, dance music in soul, this EP (like all of Lunice and the TNGHT material he did with Hudson Mohawke) still sounds about 50 years in the future and riddled with emotion. This 10 year anniversary edition features the full six originals plus the two remixes 'I See U' from the time from The Blessings and Girl Unit versions, which still slap on an equally futuristic level.

And She Said
Review: LuckyMe present another invitation into the world of Lunice, with One Hunned offering a more concise, bolder vision of what the Montreal based beat miner offered on his debut solo endeavour Stacker Upper last year. Opening with "Glow", Lunice essentially demonstrates his new found confidence at chopping drums amidst a choir of heavenly vocal harmonies and illustrious synth bombast. Alongside it "I See U" and is pure club tackle and a notable highlight, snapping through cavernous vocal stabs and shotgun snapping drums before introducing a Godzilla sized buzz synth thrusting with drunken glee. Elsewhere tracks such as "Bricks" and "Juice" immediately make you want to see Lunice live so you can fully appreciate the dextrous MPC manipulation that clearly went into its inception.

YNY
Review: Just ahead of a sterling album from Machinedrum on Planet Mu, the Brooklyn based wizard of crazed sonics returns to former beau LuckyMe for this twelve inch shaped dalliance of epic proportions. If you've attended Boiler Room (either physically or by the wonderment of the WWW) in recent times then it's likely you will have heard the genre defying excellence that is "Alarma", which you may have heard in slightly different form on Jackmaster's all conquering Fabric mix. If not it essentially applies a demented approach to all aspects of song structure and is perhaps the most refreshingly fun thing we've heard in a long time. "I'mabrat" provides an all too brief interlude into twinkling teen crunk attitude before Mr Stewart recommences the deranged brilliance on the tempo shifting click clack hyper action of "Loveking". The bassline on this pretty much demands club play! This essential release ends with "YNY" which sounds pretty much like Machinedrum succeeding at what Tiger & Woods do best.

3D Hentai Stud
Review: Joseph Marinetti steps up to the LuckyMe ring with five tracks featuring the similarly confrontational qualities of the PC Music crew. "Ms. Telesales" moves like a free-party techno track after it's been dragged through a ball pit, while "Kenzo Lee" takes a more housey direction with a DX7 bassline offset by glistening lashings of twee day-glo synths. "Lipsync" too keeps the chirpy Mario World house tones in place, but it's on "3D Hentai Stud" that the really flamboyant and downright loony production traits come through.

The Party We Could Have (7:09)
Review: Four months on from the release of his debut album, "Blue Spring", Berlin-based Canadian Nathan Micay returns to LuckyMe with a formidably floor-focused EP. While there's one sublime ambient excursion - the "Blade Runner" synthesizer movements and bubbling acid lines of "Did U Know I Cannot Die" - the rest of the EP is rugged, raw and club-ready. "The Party We Could Have" is a house-tempo stomper with quietly jacking drums, echoing riffs and foreboding electronic arpeggio lines, while "This'll Tell The Tale" is a throbbing space disco/Italo-disco box jam. Arguably best of all, though, is the Jeff Mills/Robert Hood style thump of mind-altering opener "I'm Your Huckleberry".

Review: Having before now appeared solely on compilation releases and mixes, Brooklyn concern Obey City gets snapped up by LuckyMe for some fittingly plush, low-slung beat science. After the gentle intro tones of "Reflect Effect", the aptly-titled Champagne Sounds begins in earnest with the rollercoaster funk of "Quantum Phase". Bright daubs of synth meet with brisk drums, moods switch up erratically and the slap bass comes popping out of the speakers in earnest. "Tell Her" packs in equal amounts of melodic flexing atop live drum swagger, while "Uptown Pumps" gets more crafty with its use of vocal samples and spacious mixdown. At every turn this is a neat addition to the LuckyMe stable, building on the neon strut that has come before in fine style.

Review: Earlier in the decade, Bobby "S-Type" Perman impressed all and sundry with a series of inspired EPs that put kaleidoscopic synths, chopped and screwed beats and fuzzy bass tones front and centre. Listening to "Beat" - the Scottish producer's first release for four years - it seems little has changed. Its six tracks are as vibrant, thrilling and entertaining as ever, offering a mangled mix of future R&B motifs, recycled '80s synths, stuttering trap beats, off-kilter hip-hop grooves, weighty analogue bass and glassy-eyed, sharply chopped vocal samples. There's little revelatory here, despite a keen sense of adventure, but Perman remains a superb beat-maker whose work still stands out from the crowd.

Channelling the weighty MPC styles of TNGHT and Araabmuzik into one package, it combines heady melodies, neon synths and heavy beats, with the vocoder filled "Walrus" and the ghetto styles of "Whole Lotta" making for particular highlights.
