Review: Decal is the enduring alias of Alan O'Boyle, an Irish electro lifer who has rolled with Weatherall's Rotters Golf Club label among other venerable bastions of the scene. It's been a long time since the project was put on ice, but a quick archival dig yielded some unreleased gems which now find a home on TR One's always-on-point Intrinsic Rhythm. Generationally, this is two different waves of Ireland's healthy electro scene working in tandem, charged by some absolutely deadly machine funk executed around the 1999-2004 era but sounding like all your future shock dystopian dreams made real.
Review: This mysterious, limited-edition techno release strips everything back to pure sound, delivering four futuristic tracks that span electro, techno, house and acid. Side-A kicks off with 'U Like It Raw (Red Hot)', a deep, rolling techno cut infused with raw energy and a hypnotic house vocal that keeps the groove locked in. 'Red Eye Drive' follows, channeling old-school acid techno with minimal, atmospheric production. Dubby and stripped-down, it's a heady, late-night journey through misty soundscapes. On Side-B, 'Wannado' embraces electro and acid, with a futuristic, spacey feel that twists and turns through intricate layers of sound. Closing out the release, 'Headz Vol 3' drifts into floaty, ambient-acid territoryialien, ethereal and deeply immersive. With its varied but cohesive vision, this record is a great example of the depth and range in underground electronic music. A true gem for those who seek something beyond the ordinary.
Review: Westcoast Goddess is an enigmatic producer who betrays a love of 90s house and tech and golden-era r&b on this fresh new EP for Intrinsic Rhythm. It is a perfect mix of quality electronic production and good-time vibes: the loose, tumbling drums of 'Fallin' come with wispy synths and heart-aching vocal samples. 'Time 4 Change' is more deep and meditative and 'Change Is Comin'' picks up the pace with some snappier drums and snares under a gospel-style vocal chorus. 'One O' These Days' brings steamy and squelchy bassline funk to the party.
