Crazy In Love
Cat: HOMEHIT 005. Rel: 06 Mar 20

Hip Hop/R&B
Beyonce - "Crazy In Love" (vocal version) (3:58)
Amarie - "1 Thing" (vocal version) (3:58)
Review: If you went out in the 2000s - particularly to eclectic, open-minded parties such as Manchester's Electric Chair - you'd have found yourself dancing to these two next-level R&B jams rather a lot. It goes without saying that they're both stone cold classics and the kind of brilliantly produced, chart-bothering cuts that are capable of setting any dancefloor alight. Beyonce's Chi-Lites sampling and Jay-Z sporting "Crazy In Love" remains one of her most potent and club-ready cuts, while Amerie's "1 Thing" offers a similar blend of unlikely drum breaks, fuzzy funk samples and a lead vocal that will have you singing along in no time at all.

No Diggity
No Diggity (7" limited to 300 copies)
Cat: HOME HIT 004. Rel: 06 Mar 20

Hip Hop/R&B
Blackstreet - "No Diggity" (feat Dr Dre) (3:42)
Ginuwine - "Pony" (4:00)
Review: Blackstreet's "No Diggity" is a stone cold hip hop classic. From proper club plays to cheesy parochial nights out, it unites everyone on the dance floor and never fails to become a communal singalong. It sounds as hot now as it ever did and so makes sense for Home Hitters to serve up a new limited pressing. The b-side is from US giant Ginuwine. "Pony" was his debut single co written with Timbaland and Static Major, and it is a deep cut and libidinous tune with obvious sexual metaphors and vocodered vocal samples, a cartoon whistle slide and stop-start rhythm makes it all the more alluring.

Party Up
Cat: HOMEHIT 014. Rel: 21 May 24

Hip Hop/R&B
DMX - "Party Up" (4:34)
Terror Squad - "Lean Back" (feat Fat Joe) (4:03)
Review: Two rowdy crunk classics reissued once again via Home Hitters. Focusing their efforts on keeping up the noughties' best but not yet forgotten hits in the genre, two new sickwarns top up the repertoire; first up is Fat Joe & Terror Squad's 'Lean Back', which brings a weighty crunk womp to a square command to lean back and rock away, envisaging a fresh new move for the floor-feet to repeat. Then there's the late DMX's 'Party Up', recalling the legendary rapper's icy, brash and woofy flows, which scrub starkly against a juddering array of militant electronic horns.

Home Hitters Vol 10

Hip Hop/R&B
Estelle - "American Boy" (feat Kanye West) (4:03)
Kanye West - "Stronger" (4:09)
Review: Yezzir! Home Hitters deliver a cheeky 45 and we let it past our floodgates for the sole reason that it's a KW reissue. This one consists of two tunes from the self-proclaimed god's backlog that we didn't think were very likely to be found together on a singular slice of wax. Estelle's 'American Boy' occupies the A side .Meanwhile, 'Stronger' backs up the B, reinforcing it with its instantly-recognizable Daft Punk sample and crude pop drum beats.

Gold Digger
Cat: HOMEHIT 006. Rel: 02 Feb 21

Hip Hop/R&B
Kanye West - "Gold Digger" (3:32)
Snoop Dogg - "Drop It Like It's Hot" (4:31)
Review: There is no doubting the efficacy of these two stone cold, fully certified, tried and tested hip hop classics. Pairing them off on a singular 7" means this Home Hitters release is pure dynamite. Kanye West's 'Gold Digger' remains one of his biggest and most enduring tunes with its bristling beats and big vocal hooks. On the reverse is one of the most iconic hip hop cuts of all time with Snoop Dogg bringing his super cool delivery of a nice bumping beat with those perfect voice pops and clicks busting out the mix.

P Diddy & The Family - "Bad Boy For Life" (4:10)
J-kwon - "Tipsy" (4:02)
Review: Home Hitters deliver another back-to-back reissue 7", this time pitting together two classic but under-sung essentials from hip-hop's Official Canon (TM). On the A, we hear Puff Daddy and the Family's 'Bad Boy For Life', a crunchy, stark, minimal throwback to the rapper and businessman's comeup era. Then comes the tastefully-chosen 'Tipsy' by J-Kwon, a classic just as replete with handclaps and stomps, in authentic drunken crunk fashion.

Dancehall/Ragga
Sean Paul - "Temperature" (3:39)
Enur - "Calabria 2007" (feat Natasja) (4:05)
Review: Home Hitters churn out edition 15 of their eponymous series, recollecting two noughties mainstays to a fresh white label A-and-B-sider. On the A we've 'Temperature', an experimental Sean Paul dancehall cut from the 2005 album The Trinity, although this is a faster take on dancehall than most would've heard it; the song's melody is infectious enough too, being one of those songs everyone knows as having wafted from car stereos or down-the-block house parties, and on which Paul waxes poetic about keeping the object of his affections warm. Enur's 'Calabria 2007' offered similar vibes, with its whimsical horn lead and carefree lyrical invitations.

Ghetto Superstar
Ghetto Superstar (7" limited to 300 copies)
Cat: HOMEHIT 008. Rel: 01 Sep 21

Hip Hop/R&B
Pras - "Ghetto Superstar" (feat ODB & Mya) (3:51)
ODB - "Got Your Money" (feat Kelis) (4:01)
Review: American rapper Pras put out his mega-hit 'Ghetto Supastar' back in 1998. It featured the legendary rapper Ol' Dirty Bastard and seductive vocal of r&b singer Mia and was one of the year's biggest hits. The rumbling bassline, the filthiness of ODB and the sweetness of Mia just struck a perfect combo. It's pressed up here on a super little limited edition 7" that is backed with another similarly party-popping hip hop joint. This time ODB takes the lead on 'Got Your Money' while Kelis provides the countering vocal. The crisp boom bap and rough/smooth vocal duo still bangs now.

Royce Da 5'9" - "Boom" (3:57)
NORE - "Nothin'" (4:27)
Review: Beat maker DJ Premier has explained before that Royce Da 5'9's 2001 single 'Boom' has an instrumental that was actually first made for Capone-N- Noreaga. But that was only until Royce recorded a verse on the track during a session with Preemo, who was then happy to let him have it for himself. Ut came when Royce was moving from Tommy Boy Records to a major and so he wanted to stay true to his street sound, which is exactly what he does on 'Boom.' On the flip is NORE's 'Nothin' which is one of the most recognisable hip hop tunes ever.

UK Garage
Sweet Female Attitide - "Flowers" (3:43)
Architechs - "Body Groove" (feat Nana) (3:35)
Review: What true head doesn't know 'Flowers'? Produced infamously by Sunship (Ceri Evans), this keystone lintel of the 90s UK garage door frames Leanne Brown's vocal - originally recorded as part of a much slower r&b demo - against a rolling, skippy beat that's all bounce and shimmer. Lyrically, it's a lovesick anthem, filled with longing and the ache of distance, but the groove keeps it light on its feet, providing a crossover appeal with a perma-adhesive sticking power. Though Sweet Female Attitude didn't follow it with another major hit, 'Flowers' has never faded. Tend to your garden, and your blooms won't wilt.

Usher - "Yeah" (4:14)
Lil Jon & The East Side Boyz - "Get Low" (4:31)
Review: After his amazing performance on the mainstage at the Super Bowl, this 7" comes out exactly at the right time. Usher showed why he was one of the strongest male performers in pop music with his review of some of his biggest hits in his 25+ year career. A clear highlight was his top ten hit 'Yeah', featured here on 7" featuring Lil John, who also puts in an appearance on the B-side with another club destroyer in 'Get Low'. Not many other tracks represent the 2000s dance club much better than these do.
