Review: Alien Stadium is a collaborative project comprised of Martin Duffy of Primal Scream and Felt, and Steve Mason of The Beta Band. 'Livin' In Elizabethan Times' is an audacious and oddball cosmic rock concept mini-LP about a comically underwhelming invasion of drunkard aliens. As well as the sheer unadulterated fun of the record, the amount of dense and inventive genre-melting the pair have managed to cram into these four tracks is astonishing - dropping in theremins, sound effects, militaristic horns and much more when you least expect them. They set an interplanetary course from twanging and stomping bluesy opener 'This One's For The Humans', through hypnotic balearic-ish bleep and orchestrated retro-futurist pop, to the huge cosmic disco closer 'Titanic Dance'. At first glance, it's an unashamedly silly and fun offering, but repeat listens will reveal these maverick veterans have woven in far deeper layers of commentary humour and substance.

Review: It's been a while since Hotflush and Aus regular George Fitzgerald released anything. He's not been slacking, though - as his hectic schedule of DJ gigs would tend to confirm - and here delivers his debut album for Domino offshoot Double Six. Cleverly combining elements of his usual bass-heavy, tech-tinged house and techno sound with woozy electronics, atmospheric vocals, spine-tingling melodies and bags of fluid aural textures, Fading Love was apparently inspired by the disintegration of a relationship. It's perhaps unsurprising, then, that it feels melancholy, with even the album's most up-tempo moments coming cloaked in a bittersweet aura.

Review: There's no sign of "difficult second album syndrome" to be found on All That Must Be, George Fitzgerald's follow-up to 2015 debut full-length Fading Love. In fact, you could say it's something of a triumph. It was written over an 18-month period and tracks the highs and lows of his private life, largely by eschewing his club-rocking roots in favour of songs and instrumentals that bristle with melancholy, gentle melodiousness and ear-catching electronic instrumentation. Of course, it's still rooted in contemporary club sounds, its just more James Blake or Jamie XX than, say, old pal Will Saul or Special Request. Notably, it's the more poignant songs, including fine collaborations with Lil Silva and Tracey Thorn, which linger longest in the memory.

Review: Always mysterious, yet his luminous gift for melody undimmed by the passing of time, former Beta Band frontman Mason has produced his most arresting and affecting solo work to date with this third album. Whereas in the past he was prone to self-sabotage by way of expeimental cul-de-sacs, 'Meet The Humans' - aided and abetted by production work by Elbow man Craig Potter, who brings some of that band's widescreen sweep of sound - is both warmly direct and emotionally resonant, with Mason's songcraft and trademark voice framed elegantly by expansive and inventive arrangements. This maverick force here sounds positively unstoppable.

An affiliate of Domino sub-label Double-Six since forever, About The Light presents Steve Mason's fourth studio album for the label and first in around three years. Mason channels positivity, stability since relocating to Brighton and the desire to reconnect through a dub-time album of acoustic, Brit-pop, and let's say even folky electronic ska. Classic drum machines act as micro-opening-monologues in some tracks, like "Rocket" and "No Clue", furthermore giving Mason some unneeded street credibility, on an album best suited for that 24-hour party person. Review: Those tasked with promoting Steve Mason's fifth album, 'Brothers & Sisters', have described it as his 'most open, honest and vibrant' set to date, with the artist himself proudly proclaiming it to be a "fuck Brexit, pro-immigration" affair. This distinctive approach is naturally evident in Wilson's lyrics, but also his decision to work with vocalists and musicians from around the world.
