Louder (12")
Cat: CORRESPONDANT 61. Rel: 10 Jan 18
  1. Suddenly (with Dino Lenny) (7:01)
  2. Echo Silent (Mr TC remix) (8:12)
  3. Echo Silent (11:01)
  4. Suddenly (with Dino Lenny - Jonathan Kusuma remix) (6:46)
Review: Valencia's Fiberroot is up next for Jennifer Cardini's eclectic retro flavoured imprint. The Louder EP follows up a series of great releases on Maceo Plex's Ellum Audio. Starting out with the electric and euphoric adrenaline of "Suddenly" which features Italian dance music legend Dino Lenny on this fine example of new wave Italo disco. The track gets a wicked remix on the flip by the always impressive Indonesian producer Jonathan Kusuma - who takes it into deeper/darker late night territory. Second original offering "Echno Silent" is exactly the kind of infectious indie-dance we've come to expect from Correspondant and will appeal to fans of labelmates Red Axes or Javi Redondo. This also gets a remix - the Optimo Trax affiliated Mr TC out of Glasgow delivers a trippy rendition full of oddball arpeggios and tape saturated atmospherics which is perfect for early evening mood lighting.

  1. Be Near Me (5:56)
  2. Render (6:17)
  3. Toxic Hill (5:51)
  4. Broken Shells (5:39)
Review: Up next on Jennifer Cardini's ever surprising label are Italian expats in Berlin Hinode, who head up the Science Fiction imprint. It has presented tracks by the likes of NGLY, Jared Wilson and DJ Richard over the years - which gives you an idea of the gritty sound these guys are pushing. The Magnetic Field EP features three lo-fi and all analogue sounding cuts that you've come to expect from the pair: the A side features two grinding 303 led killers, but we particularly enjoyed the rusty and dusted down sleaze of "Render" featuring those seductive, delay drenched vocals. On the flip, "Toxic Hill" is the kind of techno that crosses over into EBM aesthetics, much like Phase Fatale or Blush Response are known to, while "Broken Shells" goes out all guns blazing on this trippy and hypnotic stomper.

  2. Jonathan Kusuma - "Motor Melodies" (6:37)
  3. Marvin & Guy - "Juba Dance" (7:40)
  4. Kempes - "Sentimental Idiot" (6:53)
Review: Jennifer Cardini's Correspondant has firmly established itself as an 'it' label within the current indie dance scene with its eclectic grooves that span punk funk, industrial/EBM throwbacks and even a bit of melodic tech house for good measure. For its fifth compilation, the Cologne based label serves up some current scene favourites in the form of Romanian duo Khidja and their groovy and tripped out slow burner "Gelatine" and Jakarta's finest Jonathan Kusuma: who is in top form as always on the lo-slung baleraic number "Motor Melodies". On the flip, German duo Marvin & Guy take you on a cosmic styled trip on "Juba Dance" while Kempes: the new brainchild of Danny Passarella and Tom Wegg-Prosser channel their best impressions of greats such as Giorgio Moroder or Bobby Orlando on "Sentimental Idiot".

  1. The Zen Of Xen (feat Xen - parts I & II) (12:57)
  2. Heart For Yes. Like For No (4:52)
  3. Hubris (6:39)
Review: Following up great releases recently on My Favorite Robot, DFA and Calypso, the mighty Geoff Kirkwood aka Man Power returns to Correspondant. The Mexico based composer makes a welcome return with these three truly singular trips. From the spooky, technoid tunnel vision of "The Zen Of Xen - parts I & II" featuring the seductive vocal talents of feat Xen, Kirkwood continues to impress by way of "Heart For Yes. Like For No"a neon-lit and adrenalised EBM/nu-disco mutant, while the powerful closer "Hubris" brings on those euphoric desert rave vibes - the Arp chords throughout will no doubt elevate you to a higher state.

  2. Fort Romeau - "Over Water" (7:06)
  3. Colli Alban - "Walking In The Night" (6:33)
  4. Javi Redondo - "Heroin" (8:37)
Review: Ms Cardini presents four more fabulous excursions in indie dance music, courtesy of her always reliable house of Correspondant. Following up the first volume which had some highly valued contributions courtesy of Khidja and Jonathan Kusuma, the second edition features hot Tel Aviv duo Red Axes with the dark disco odyssey of "Earth Core" and Fort Romeau's surprising appearance on the A side. The flip showcases the fresh sound of Colli Alban firstly. His track "Walking In The Night" is a real highlight, where he serves up some darkwave slo-mo trance. Finally label staple Javi Redondo impresses as always on the dreamy and hypnotising groove of "Heroin" channelling the majestic vibe of fellow Cologne label Kompakt.

Review: Bursting onto the scene with some impressive releases on Hotflush and Permanent Vacation, Danielle Caldelas aka Terr presents a brand new thriller on Correspondant. The Neuromancer EP features yet more of her trademark dark romantic techno, with influences of EBM, synth-pop and house. From the sultry and euphoric title track that's packed full of soaring synths, rushy arpeggios and a distinct retro flair throughout, the falling acid of "Multiverse" with its unashamed Kraftwerk influence or the roaring and neon-lit remix by New York by way of Dublin's Krystal Klear on the flip.

  2. 2017 (7:02)
  3. 2001 (7:14)
  4. 2001 (Fabrizio Mammarella remix) (6:57)
Review: More punked-up indie dance from the always reliable Corrspondant camp. This one comes courtesy of Lithuanian scene stalwart Vidmantas Cepkauskas and follows up a brilliant EP on his own Le Temps Perdu last year. Numeros is a bold and stylish EP in its entirety - from the ethereal gothic house of "1995" and the sexy punk-funk of "2017" on the A side, the flip features more irresistible sonic treats in the form of "2001" which in its original format is a seething, PVC-clad, EBM number with Phil Oakey-like vocals. It then gets a killer remix by the biggest retovert of them all: Fabrizio Mammarella (Black Spuma), who delivers a typically neon-lit perspective.

Review: Jennifer Cardini rounds up the best in modern indie dance in one compilation on her always reliable Correspondant imprint. All the usual suspects appear, as well as some fresh debutants. Israeli duo Red Axes are on form as always on the cosmic exotic vibe of "Disco Arp", while homeboy Moscoman delivers some tripped-out tunnel vision on"Wakalaka Beach". Elsewhere, British synth magician Black Merlin provides the chilling ambient soundscape of "Sub Conscious", Moscow's Simple Symmetry handed in one of the highlights in the form of their noir synthpop epic "Suspiria" and Black Spuma's Fabrizio Mammarella delivers the neon-lit modern Italo antics of "Diavoli".
