Review: Stone Foundation have been working tirelessly to bring their strain of mainstream soul to all and sundry. From supporting The Specials to collaborating with Paul Weller, they've done plenty since starting out in 1998, and now they're back with their 10th studio album, Outside Looking In. Ahead of that release comes this jubilant single Echoes Of Joy, which bounds with enthusiasm thanks to its uptempo house beat and glorious piano chops. It's a shoe-in for drive time radio and festival stages once summer rolls around so why not let a little light in ahead of time?

Review: Stone Foundation build on their well-received first single from earlier this year with another lovely bit of slow motion funk on the 100% label. First up is 'Changes', an all new tune that languishes in long legend drums, perfectly lazy hits and drawn out sax lines that sooth your soul and melt your heart. The flip is a fine cover of 'Going Back To My Roots' which anyone who has seen the band play live over the years will know has been part fo their repertoire for a while. It's a more uptempo and tightly coiled funk strider that busts with trumpet stabs and noodling sax energy.

Review: Eight-piece soul unit Stone Foundation have been turning out their own distinctive brand of soul for a full quarter of a century now. They have dropped plenty of albums in that time and have a new one to mark the occasion on the way - Standing In The Light: 25 Years Of Stone Foundation, which features all of their greatest tunes, including some originals such as this one, which is also getting its own limited purple vinyl 7" release. As always this is all new but with an authentic vintage aesthetic that makes it impossible to date. The noodling guitar work and funky bass is irresistible with fat synths up top and the playful vocals add further layers of funk.

Review: Stone Foundation's 11th studio album continues to yield delightful singles with this being the third. It features vocals from recent Moby collaborator JP Bimini and follows in the footsteps of a remarkable 17 previous singles which have all made the Top Ten of the UK vinyl singles charts. 'Cut Me Loose' is surely destined for the same fate with its impactful melodies and heart-swelling emotions all flowing freely thanks to the great vocal top line. On the flipside is a non-album cut 'Starting from Zero' which offers a different kind of soul vibe.

Review: Since making their debut at the dawn of the century, Stone Foundation has successfully developed a trademark sound that sits somewhere between vintage soul, the Style Council and the Average White Band. This smartly refined, retro-futurist sound naturally comes to the fore on Is Love Enough, their high-quality sixth studio album. The plentiful highlights include Paul Weller collaboration 'Deeper Love', the Daptone style revivalist soul brilliance of 'Hold on to Love' (which boasts superb lead vocals from Durant Jones), the Tony Allen-influenced 'Af-ri-ka' and the string-laden 'Love's Outro', which boasts a poetic spoken word vocal from Peter Capaldi. Review: Outside Looking In is the landmark 10th album from Stone Foundation and it finds the much loved outfit being a big and fresh sound to their work. Over the last quarter of a century they have take an inclusive and collaborative approach. That continues here as the album was written with backing vocals from none other that Paul Weller himself and was recorded this Black Barn Studio. Also adding colour to the grooves are disco diva Melba Moore plus more from Sulene Fleming, Laville, Sheree Dubois and Graziella Affinita. It makes for a fulsome funk sound with big dance floor potential.

Review: Stone Foundation are among the few to offer some true-school Northern soul vibes these days (although the band are technically from the West Midlands!). The point is, however, that if you want to feel the spirit, the sounds and the emotions of 70s British funk then you've drawn the right record. Recorded at Paul Weller's (The Jam) studio down in Surrey, the album isn't all James Brown struttin' and hollerin'; many of the tracks on Everybody Anyone are bittersweet love songs for entirely different demographics to get stuck into. From the families, to young teens and lovers of soulful pop music, this is a joyous album with a positive energy and a cheerful charisma at its core.

Review: A collection that blends classic soul, jazz, and rhythm & blues with a touch of British mod flair, this is the 11th album from the British veterans. From the outset, the album demonstrates the band's ability to capture emotion with the haunting saxophone and reflective vocals on 'How Many Times', which sets a powerful tone for what follows. The title track delivers an uplifting, seventies-inspired anthem, combining brass, hand percussion and heartfelt harmonies that evoke the essence of Isaac Hayes and Stevie Wonder. Tracks like 'Everything & All I Want' and 'Cut Me Loose' highlight the band's versatility, drawing influences from artists such as Paul Weller and Fela Kuti. The latter, featuring JP Bimeni's stunning vocals, delivers a funky, rhythm-driven groove. Meanwhile, 'Close To Where You Are' is a beautiful love dedication with its soulful brass arrangements and dreamy trumpet segments.
