In recent years, plenty of impressive bands have emerged from Australia's healthy indie-dance scene. Jagwar Ma are the latest to make waves far beyond Bondi beach. Howlin, their debut album, is arguably more 'indie' than dance, delivering fuzzy guitars, distant vocals and post-punk attitudes by the bucketload. Yet there's more than a nod towards the dancefloor, with tracks like "Exercise" (vintage Stone Roses meets piano house in 1989), "Uncertainty" (pleasingly stylish synth-pop) and "Four" (sweaty house) perfectly complimenting the more traditional tracks. There's also a hint of '60s psychedelia about a number of the tracks, with The Byrds-on-pills vibes of "Let Her Go" standing out. Impressive stuff.
