The Fall's latest record takes shape in the form of Grotesque (After The Gramme) Live!, a compilation of 1980s live Fall tidbits not yet celebrated in the light of day. Curated by one small section of the ever increasingly mountainous pile of former members of the band, Grotesque was put together under the aegis of Popstock Records, an outfit run entirely by this ragtag, somewhat happily jilted group. Following up the first record of its kind, Slates Live!, Grotesque Live! culls and curates hundreds of hours of live bootlegged, somewhat ramshackle live recordings of the Fall taken from a two-year period beginning in the 1980s. With liner notes by Henry Rollins, this is yet one more record to capture Smith and co's captious, caustic sonic societal menacings onstage.
