Since its original release on the tiny FMP label in 1975, "Three Nails Left" has gone on to become one of the most talked-about "free-music" albums around; a triumph of wild and breathless improvisation by a pan-European quartet helmed by now legendary pianist Alexandervon Schlippenbach. Here the album gets released on CD for the very first time, with each of the original three tracks being given the re-master treatment. Of particular interest is thrillingly epic opener "Range", a 20-minute epic in umpteen parts that's like free-jazz it it had been made by punk-rockers, though the intense and squally horns of "Black Horns", which are almost hallucination-inducing, are also hugely alluring.
