With their consummate blends of jazz, neo-soul, Latin and hip-hop, Southampton's Part-Time Heroes have always offered a more contemporary alternative to the shuffling, old-time jazz grooves of Ninja Tune stalwarts the Cinematic Orchestra. This third album - their first since 2008 - sees them move further towards straight jazz territory. That's not to say there aren't diversions - see the gorgeous, sun-blushed "Holy", sparkling acoustic guitars of "Neverlast" or Rhodes-laden soul of "Day". For the most part, though, Lightfalls offers authentic, soft-focus jazz songs dripping with picturesque vocals, hissing cymbals and laidback melodies.
