The Telstar File vinyl

Given the undulating, stretched-out nature of his analogue synthesizer experiments, it's little surprise to see former DFA man Gavin Russom popping up Ron Morelli's imprint L.I.E.S. There's naturally much to get excited about on this debut three-tracker for the label, beginning with the surging arpeggios, tooled-up grooves and almost psychedelic synths of "Brood Queen". "Mantle Of The Stars" is deeper and a little gentler, with bubbling marimba melodies stretching out over African-influenced, polyrhythmic beats. Best of all, though, is the yearning, spaced out dancefloor psychedelia of "The Telstar File" - all soaring synthesizers, trippy analogue grooves and claustrophobic chords.
