Last year, post-rock heroes Arab Strap announced their return via the release of a string of archive live albums and a collection of mid-1990s demos. Now they've gone one better and delivered their first new studio album since 2005, As Days Get Dark. The essential ingredients that made the Falkirk duo such an attractive proposition - Aidan Moffat's poetic, kitchen-sink-drama lyrics, delivered in a thick Scottish Burr, and multi-instrumentalist Malcom Middleton's distinctively lo-fi backing tracks- are once again the bedrock of the album, though this time the music is perhaps a little more densely layered and - whisper it quietly -surprisingly polished. One esteemed music publication described the album as a "career highlight', and it's hard to disagree.
