Signal II Signal EP
Signal II Signal EP (12" limited to 200 copies)
Cat: WF 04. Rel: 11 Jul 23

Drum & Bass / Jungle
Qeta - "Idream" (6:19)
Qeta - "Revved Orb" (7:10)
Qeta - "Redawn" (4:27)
Inkipak - "Plex" (6:06)
Inkipak - "Schedule" (6:44)
Inkipak - "Wetlands" (3:23)
Review: Qeta and Inkipak show off their respective skills on this fine split EP on Sound Synthesis's Wave Function label. Qeta takes care of the a-side with a serene opener in the form of 'Idream' which pairs lush ambient designs with pristine breakbeats. 'Revved Orb' is a more dubbed-out and trippy post-jungle rhythm with 'Redawn' bringing soulful Detroit techno style to the floor. With his trio of tunes, Inkipak offers stripped-back breaks and celestial chords, heavenly moods on 'Schedule' and a cosmic comedown soundtrack with 'Wetlands.'

Drum & Bass / Jungle
Qeta - "Idream" (6:19)

Qeta - "Redawn" (4:27)
Inkipak - "Plex" (6:06)
Inkipak - "Schedule" (6:44)
Inkipak - "Wetlands" (3:23)
Review: Coming to Sound Synthesis' very own imprint, Wave Function, producers Qeta and Inkipak go head-to-head on this incredible new six-tracker, in a rare contemporary example of a "versus" record. Qeta's approach to production makes more sense when we bear his prior explorations in jungle under the name The Jaffa Kid, in mind; helming up the first three tracks that make up the A-side's corpus, the likes of 'Idream' and 'Corpus' reveal a preference for precision, taken to increasingly bloopy, novel and spacious logical conclusions. Inkipak's rebuttal is to resort to cascading breaks blissouts, preferring a more euphoric arsenal made up of ethereal vocals and trilling arps, of which 'Schedule' is the highlight.

Destroy Him
Cat: WF 06. Rel: 17 Oct 24

Electro
Destroy Him My Robots (5:30)
The Path To Enlightenment (4:47)
What Side Will You Be On (4:23)
Sterrenwacht (4:49)
Hydrogen Bombs (4:04)
Review: If you like your electro high in sci-fi overtones and rich in cinematic designs then look no further. This Destroy Him 12" on Wave Function is just what you need in your life. 'Destroy Him My Robots' is an evocative piece with sombre chords in the background and snappy metallic rhythms up front. 'The Path To Enlightenment' powers on through the cosmos to planets light years away, and 'What Side Will You Be On' layers up whip-snaking synths with corrugated drum patterns. 'Sterrenwacht' brings some jungle fever and 'Hydrogen Bombs' closes with a sense of terror.

Solitary World
Cat: WF 03. Rel: 29 Sep 22

Electro
Solitary World (7:03)
Strings (7:55)
Light Echoes (5:07)
Signals From The Deep (6:05)
Signals From The Deep (Moy remix) (4:53)
Review: Sound Synthesis' Wave Function label is based in Malta - not a place known for its electronic music of any sort, really, but given the strength of these first few outings, it should be. VERTICAL67 is up first with a kicking electro rhythm that has busted synth stabs and warped space-funk bass. It is an irresistible opener followed up by 'Strings' which is more skeletal and dubbed out but still nice and bouncy. 'Light Echoes' drops into a punchy techno vibe with Detroit overtones and 'Signals From The Deep' is a raw workout with slapping hits and brain-fizzing synth lines.

The Beryllium
Cat: WF 05. Rel: 23 May 24

Electro
The Beryllium (6:27)
Magnetic Activity (6:56)
Need To Orbit (5:28)
The Beryllium (Sound Synthesis remix) (5:21)
Review: Zeta Reticula (Uros Umek) is among the wide cream of today's atmospheric breaks and electro producers, carrying on strong with a career that he's kept steady since 2000. Since the mid-2010s, the Slovene star has hopped from label to label, signifying a restlessness that matches the writhing weight of his music. 'The Beryllium' is yet another EP to capture Reticula's preference for unrelent, commanding a unique sense of space and weight that flaunts a true sense of art. Listened to in one way, 'Need To Orbit', sounds like a functional acid jam, but its pitch-perfect use of reverb and EQ renders it gestalt, nearly convincing us that the track was direct-outputted from the aux port of an interplanetary war machine and not a stack of analog synths. On the other hand, the closing remix from Sound Synthesis is nice and cascading - gushing, sheathing sounds abounding - contrasting to Reticula's opting for judderings and impacts.
