Ain't Enough Acid
Ain't Enough Acid (limited hand-stamped 12")
Cat: STAMP 014. Rel: 22 Nov 22

Disco/Nu-Disco
Ain't Enough Acid (6:43)
The Glow (Estate) (6:48)
Gaze Into The Future (5:24)
Overly Dramatic (6:12)
Review: Casino Times debuts on the Stamp Records label with four typically well-produced and lively cuts of nu-disco and house. 'Ain't Enough Acid' teases and pleases with its drawn out acid squelchy and funky disco bass riffs. 'The Glow (Estate)' sinks into a more seductive late-night deep house groove with infectious swing and delicate piano tinkles. 'Gaze Into The Future' is defined by grinding and gauzy synth loops that build and boodle over leggy drums and cosmic disco signifiers. Last of all comes the playfully menacing 'Overly Dramatic' with its stomping kicks and chatty claps all lit up by some theatrical synth stabs.

Dm Slide (12")

Disco/Nu-Disco
Dm Slide (5:23)
Dm Slide (dub) (5:56)
Review: Stamp glides up to a 15th release with the ever-present Ben Gomori the man responsible. The former writer has done it all in his time from playful edits to big house to here, dazzling disco. 'DM Slide' is a classic-sounding cut with busy basslines and silky arps, nice tinny percussion and a glorious vocal that soars way up top. That takes up the a-side while the flip is a dub version that ups the disco energy and removes the vocals so that the cosmic fx are more front and centre. A useful 12" so far.

Soldier (7:49)
Harlem (8:23)
Review: Fresh from editing the Dickens out of "O Superman" and "Pump Up The Jam", Bremen beat-carver Jascha gets busy on Fela Kuti and Bobbi Humphrey. "Soldiers" sees Hagen retaining all of Kuti's vocal command over a dubby Lindstromm-esque groove that pays off with delicious keys on the breakdown. 'Harlem', meanwhile, adds a lush brushed drum backing to Bobbi with extensive psychedelic textures and a lolloping groove that's not dissimilar to Andrew Ashong. Stunning.

Herbie's Jam (6:25)
Oliver (5:15)
Review: London's Lodger makes his comeback on the young Stamp imprint with another two slices of mesmerizing house funk. "Herbie's Jam" is a neat little number featuring plenty of jazzy brass instrumentation, gentle piano keys and a punchy percussive roll. Over on the flip, "Oliver" is more playful, bringing in a bumpy, guitar-led hook and shreds of vocal samples jumping in and out of the groove. Lovely.

Ablett (6:51)
Review: From Newcastle to Berlin via Mexico, Man Power is a man on a mission to spread the gospel of house music and he makes quite the declaration on new edit label Stamp. On the A side he takes the razor to Alicia Myer's "I Want To Thank You" keeping that filter down low until he brings the power in with glorious fashion. On the flip "Ablett" sounds like classic DJ Gregory with its soulful broken beat supporting some gorgeous and emotive elements but we're still guessing who he edits on this one. Wicked stuff from this great edits imprint yet again following some nice ones by Swazyak and more.

We Just (Mo Disko edit) (5:55)
Video Games (Appartman & Nico Juice edit) (6:12)
Review: The Stamp label has pressed up some more of their lovely white label wax, hand-stamped it and invited a trio of talents to serve up some sizzling disco edits. Mo Disko goes first on the relatively dark and late-night driving disco tune that is 'We Just' with its crunchy drums and stiff arps. It's a gloriously subtle party anthem that will send hands skyward once it drops. On the flip, the iconic 'Video Games' gets a big edit from Appartman & Nico Juice who touch it up in sympathetic ways, layering in some extra fat bass and let the funky weirdo grooves roll.

Never (6:51)
Don't Say Goodnight (8:07)
Review: When dance floor puppet master Jacques Renault slips out a new, limited edition, hand stamped 12" you know it is worth copping even before checking. When you do check, though, you will not be left disappointed: 'Never' is a super sized, super fun filter house tune with big pianos, great builds, touch edged and stomping house drums and a soaring vocal. 'Don't Say Goodnight' is another track packed with old school disco goodness married to a fresh house groove. Again the filters get worked hard, the percussion sounds straight from the 70s and the strings bring that touch of class. Essential.

Never Thought
Love Is Stronger
Review: After scoring points with their first installment, Vin Sol and Matrixxman are back with their second round of cheeky Sade edits for the modern analogue house brigade. On this occasion "Never Thought" rides on plaintive chord touches and an evenly paced salvo of drum machine rhythm, while a healthy bubble of square wave bass bubbles underneath Sade's inimitable vocals. "Love Is Stronger" takes more of a mellow Balearic approach, still solid in the rhythm section but with a more wistful melodic finish for the perfect kind of heartbreak house. As you would hope for with edits of these nature, there's still plenty in their construction to help them gel into a mix as well as melt the crowd into a loved-up mess.
