Review: Alive Cooper's 1971 classic Killer was his fourth studio album during a truly unstoppable period for the Detroit rocker. He clocked up consecutive platinum-selling albums as well as five Top 40 hits such 'I'm Eighteen,' 'School's Out' and 'No More Mr. Nice Guy.' This reissue comes alongside a reissue of the 1972 album School's Out and has been newly remastered with the addition of rare recordings and previously unreleased live performances. This one topped out at #21 on the Billboard albums chart and featured hit singles such as 'Under My Wheels' and 'Be My Lover' as well as a prog-rock-inspired epic in the shape of 'Halo Of Flies.'

Review: As an ode to the upcoming remake of David Lynch's infamous Twin Peaks, there is a flurry of Angelo Badalamenti reissues at the moment. In fact, both this original soundtrack, which is the official music as heard in the 1992 film, and the Fire Walk With Me spin-off have both resurfaced as reissues this week. Unsurprisingly, we recommend for you to snap up both because they have been something of a rarity over the last 10 years. Timeless and iconic from start to finish, this soundtrack is not for the faint of heart, and will likely stir some feelings upon initial listen. This will be all the more palpable if you were shocked and eternally intrigued by the movie. We were, of course, and we absolutely cannot wait for the new series either!

Review: Angelo Badalamenti is to noir thrillers what Ennio Morricone is to the spaghetti Western scene. The Italo-American composer has been a pivotal part of the Hollywood soundtrack scene since the 70s and, among many cult-like figures, he's collaborated extensively with the great David Lynch on projects such as Blue Velvet and, of course, the present Twin Peaks, a film which has reached a God-like status over the last two decades. The music from the motion picture is as vivid and dream-like as the film itself; Badalalementi immerses you in a world of Neo-gothic trance and bizarre, fairy-like dances that instantly recall the movie's infamous dance scene concerning two horses. What is most notable about it is his use of subtle jazz nuances and the man's pioneering downtempo style. NB: this particular release, Fire Walk With Me, features additional music and acts as a companion to the official soundtrack as heard in the movie. What a soundtrack. Totally essential.

Review: Originally released under the name The English Beat in 1982, this album sees the Two Tone experts spreading their wings and incoporating African vibes and jazz into their revolutionary sound. It's joyful, party-fuelling stuff but usually with a social message snuck in for good measure, which is just how we like it. Throw in some bonus studio and live tracks on this double deluxe RSD version and it really can't be Beat.

Review: An album that surely needs no introduction and does precisely what it says on the tin (like Ronseal), Black Sabbath by Black Sabbath is often considered (and rightly so) to be the first true heavy metal album, while the deeper nerds will also attest to the project birthing the doom metal genre as an entity thanks to guitarist Tony Iommi's signature menacingly psychedelic tone. Originally released in 1970, this self-titled debut boasts some of the band's most iconic cuts to date such as the looming title-track as well as 'The Wizard', 'Behind The Wall Of Sleep', and, 'N.I.B.', while the fact that they managed to also record and release their sophomore follow up Paranoid the very same year is anyone's guess (drugs).

Review: Who can argue with them for wanting to repress this beauty? It's quite simply one of the best pop albums of all time. Tracy Chapman's voice is inimitable and she is, frankly, a genius. The timeless yet nostalgic 'Fast Car' is the unmistakable standout here - be teleported back to late-80s Britain (when it was a ubiquitous presence in public spaces) but know that if an emerging artist wrote that today it would still be a number one. Strictly speaking this is a 37th anniversary reissue - but who's counting? The label, with Chapman herself involved, have gone to meticulous steps to ensure it's an audiophile delight: Heavyweight vinyl and sourced from the analog master. The trusty Bernie Grundman, who is one of the best mastering engineers in the world, was the honoured hire in bringing this work of art back to life.

Review: This comprehensive special edition of this classic album comes across eight sides of vinyl and captures the iconic band at the peak of their early career. Performing in the nation's capital, Chicago delivered a wonderfully dynamic set that showcases their unique fusion of rock, jazz, and brass. It features plenty of great work from the band's well known and distinctive horn section and intricate arrangements. A magnificently captured live recording, it features hits from their early albums such as Chicago Transit Authority and Chicago II, and also takes in fan favourites like 'A Song For Richard & His Friends' and 'Beginnings.' The performance is a testament to Chicago's musical versatility and powerful live presence and this version of it takes you right back to the heart of it all.

Review: Chicago's third greatest hits album, originally released in 1989, is now available on sea blue vinyl. This collection spans from Chicago 16 to Chicago 19, featuring classics from both Peter Cetera and his successor Jason Scheff. Highlights include power ballads like 'Hard to Say I'm Sorry' and 'Hard Habit to Break' by Cetera, and 'If She Would Have Been Faithful' with Scheff on vocals. Chicago's resurgence in the early '80s and continued success with hits such as 'Will You Still Love Me?' and 'Look Away' show the band's enduring appeal. With over 38 million units sold in the U.S. and numerous gold and platinum albums, Chicago remains one of rock's most successful groups. This compilation alone features 6 top 10 hits alone!

Review: The Sound Of Music had a long-lasting impact, and one of its cornerstones was 'My Favourite Things', later covered by trumpeter-visionary John Coltrane. Coltrane's version - the lead track from the album of the same name - helped cement the song's cultural standing, topping the charts in several countries. Three other tracks appear on the album in mono; Cole Porter's 'Ev'ry Time We Say Goodbye', and two standards from the Gershwin twins on the B side. This new reissue by Rhino, however, has both stereo and mono, along with new liner notes: we're blown away by this light-hearted trumpet masterpiece.

Review: Since the release of Deja Vu in 1970, the music scene had evolved, but audiences still craved the harmony-driven idealism that catapulted Crosby, Stills & Nash to fame. CSN, the band's third album, reached number two on the charts, just behind Fleetwood Mac's Rumours. The album shows a mature lyrical depth and intricate compositions. Graham Nash's 'Just a Song Before I Go' became a hit single, epitomising his knack for radio-friendly acoustic tunes. Stephen Stills' 'See the Changes' and 'Dark Star' stand tall among his best, while David Crosby's contributions - 'Shadow Captain,' 'Anything at All,' and the poignant 'In My Dreams' - highlight his unique voice. Nash's multi-part epic 'Cathedral,' inspired by an acid trip in Winchester Cathedral, became a live staple. CSN is the last album where the trio's harmonies shine without additional voices, making it a timeless gem, blending country, pop, and rock seamlessly. Despite not reaching the innovative peaks of their first two albums, CSN remains a beloved album in their vault.

Review: The 2024 release of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young - Live At Fillmore East, 1969 captures the iconic band's electricifying energy during their fourth show in two days at the Fillmore East. Rhino's 2xLP set is a newly discovered multi-track recording of the September 20, 1969, concert, featuring both acoustic and electric performances. Review: Five decades on and Devo are rightly recognised as a cultural treasure from the early days of US new wave, but even by the time they released their Brian Eno-produced debut album in 1978 they were five years in and way ahead of the curve. As the band reflect on half a century at the cutting edge, Rhino have pulled together an expansive retrospective which comes in many different iterations. This particular edition, pressed on red and blue double vinyl, gathers together 25 classic and lesser known cuts from the band's considerable archives, housed with stunning artwork in a gatefold sleeve and is sure to become a collectors' item.

Review: It's hard to believe there was a time when a band as culturally important as The Doors were still trying to make it, but even after their debut album came out in January 1967 there was a brief patch where they were still little known outside their stomping ground in LA. A couple of months later, they held a three-night stint at The Matrix in San Francisco playing to threadbare crowds, but luckily the sound engineer had the foresight to properly mic up and capture all of the performances and the recordings have since become a massive part of the band's legacy. As well as the classic tracks from the first album, and a few of their later hits, there are a generous dose of covers and obscurities which get a first-time airing thanks to this new expanded and authoritative five-LP edition, with the generous inclusion of an extra 7" with a hidden gem that will blow the minds of lifelong ardent fans, of which there are more than a few.

Review: Alive She Cried is The Doors' electrifying second live album from 1983, available for the first time on vinyl since its original release. The first live album to be released following the band's explosion in popularity after their incendiary song 'The End' was lucky enough to be featured in the timeless Ford-Coppola movie Apocalypse Now, Elektra Records were more than compelled to pursue the release of more Doors material; this one homes in on various concerts between 1968-70, spanning shows performed in New York, Boston, Detroit, LA and Copenhagen. This 40th anniversary reissue is on emerald vinyl and features 'Light My Fire (including Graveyard Poem)', 'Moonlight Drive', and 'Love Me Two Times', among other Doors hits and favourites.

Accruing all the hits, we begin with the seminal 'Rescue' before careening through 'Never Stop', 'The Killing Moon' and 'Seven Seas', recalling the new wave band's emotive drawl and gushing instrumentals, coinciding with the time in which their contemporaneous album, 'Songs To Learn and Sing', was released.

Review: Rhino have embarked on a grand reissue mission and plan to put out all of the Echo & The Bunnymen's first four albums. Here we have a remastered version of Ocean Rain on 180-gram black vinyl. It was the fourth of the band's albums and was related back in 1984. It reached number four on the UK Albums Chart thanks to singles like 'Silver', 'Seven Seas' and personal favourite 'The Killing Moon.' The album got the band back to the top of their game after the rather less than warm reception to previous album Porcupine the year before thanks to its new found romantic sweetness and the band's bittersweet melodies.

Review: Faith Evans released her Keep The Faith album, one of the three platinum-certified records she put out between 1995 and 2001, just 12 months after losing her then-husband Notorious BIG. It arrived on Bad Boy Records and was almost entirely written and produced by Evans herself. It was a highlight of the 90s soul-pop era with top ten singles including 'All Night Long' and 'Love Like This.' Evans brought plenty of raw pain to her vocal deliveries even though on the surface the commercial r&b tunes are easy to access. It's a heartfelt homage to her late husband that is just as touching today.

It topped the charts in 1972, some three years after it was actually released in 1969. Of course, it is best known for the tune 'The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face' which was in Clint Eastwood's movie 'Play Misty for Me'. It went on to stay at number one for six weeks and then won the Grammyr Award for Record of the Year in 1973. Allegedly the record only took 10 hours to complete in its entirety, and what a record it is.

Review: Rhino Records delivers a vibrant reissue of Fleetwood Mac's daring double-album, Tusk (1979), now available exclusively on 180g Transparent Light Green 2LP vinyl. This genre-defying masterpiece exemplifies the band's willingness to explore new territories. Lindsey Buckingham's intricate arrangements and diverse influences infuse the album with elements of pop, rock, new wave, and disco. Stevie Nicks shines with powerful vocals on standout tracks like the emotive ballad 'Sara' and the anthemic title track. While initially compared to the monumental success of Rumours, Tusk has since garnered a dedicated following for its boldness and artistic depth. Achieving Platinum certification and topping the UK charts, this reissue celebrates the album's enduring legacy and cements its status as a cult classic.

Featuring 14 songs, the album spans live performances from the Tusk, Rumours, and Mirage tours, presenting a distilled and impactful listening experience. This version still has a great balance of lesser known tracks with classics like 'The Chain,' and the haunting 'Gold Dust Woman.' The second disk breaks even more classics with 'Hold Me, and 'Songbird'. While there has been the reunion tour releases in the 2000s, there hasn't been a release that promotes their tours of the day like this release has.

Review: In the late 1960s, Fleetwood Mac was formed by Mick Fleetwood, Peter Green, John McVie and Jeremy Spencer and they went on to become one of the most legendary acts in rock. The Best of Fleetwood Mac (1969-1974) compiles highlights from their early years with Reprise Records and features tracks from seven albums-Then Play On (1969), Kiln House (1970), Future Games (1971), Bare Trees (1972), Penguin (1973), Mystery to Me (1973), and Heroes Are Hard to Find (1974. This collection includes hits like 'Oh Well - Pt. 1' and 'The Green Manalishi (With the Two Prong Crown)' and so reflects the band's evolving lineup and showcases contributions from nearly every member of the era with extra info from James McNair's liner notes.

Review: Foreigner's upcoming compilation, Turning Back the Time, is a nostalgic journey through the band's illustrious career, featuring 18 tracks that span their greatest hits and an exciting new addition. The compilation, timed to coincide with the band's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction, includes classics like 'Feels Like the First Time', 'Cold As Ice' and 'Juke Box Hero,' showing the band's signature blend of rock and melodic strength. The jam packed collection also features a special surprise with the previously unreleased track 'Turning Back the Time'. This fresh cut, co-written by Mick Jones and Marti Frederiksen, is a reflective ode that looks back on the journey of growing up and the impact of music. With a vibrant melody and heartfelt lyrics, it resonates deeply, especially in light of Jones' recent health challenges. Also featured are timeless hits like 'Hot Blooded' and 'I Want to Know What Love Is', alongside lesser-known gems like 'Girl on the Moon'. Overall, a worthy collection that can be otherwise called a greatest hits album.

It proved the most critically acclaimed and successful of all their work and in fact was their last for 13 years. Few other alternative rock albums have ever come close to the impact of the one. Fact fans will know, of course, the original record came with three different covers, and might also have read that the tortuous recording process behind the album is what eventually lead to the group's demise.

Review: What is left to be written about the debut Joy Division album that hasn't been written already? Well, not much except to say if you've never heard it, you must. This is the more raw of the two studio albums, powered mainly by the foundations laid down by bassist Peter Hook and drummer Stephen Morris. But although the rudimentary electronic experimentalism of its successor Closer are missing - with the possible exception of 'She's Lost Control' - Martin Hannett's production job creates an uneasy world of magical reverbs and echoes that lure in the listener. From its iconic, Peter Saville sleeve to classic songs like 'Shadowplay' and 'Interzone' - which started life as a cover of Nolan Porter's Northern Soul cult hit 'Keep On Keeping On' - this is the template that effectively launched a thousand bands, from indie and post punk to goth and beyond.

Mixing up all the hallmarks of hip hop - sex, guns, drugs, and cash - with her own vulnerability, it makes for a record filled with highs and lows, hard beats and more tender tunes. The production - this time without the help of Notorious B.I.G. who made her previous one so hot - is still lush and filled with smart samples.

Their music, a blend of garage, folk-rock, and psychedelia, never reached massive commercial success but earned critical acclaim and has grown in popularity in time. It's effectively a greatest hits comp and from the epic longing 'My Little Red Book' and 'Alone Again O' - which The Damned subsequently turned into a hit in the 80s - to the more introspective 'A House Is Not a Motel" and 'You Set the Scene', it's the perfect starting point for those wishing to dip a toe into these rich creative waters.

Pressed on 180g black vinyl, this collection features the iconic folk singer's solo demos from March 1976 so offers a raw, intimate look at the creation of one of her most revered albums. The demos capture her signature style and insightful lyrics in their early, unpolished form. From the sincerity of her lyricism to the fathoms-deep feeling in her voice, the fragile beauty of the melodic composition and the tender playing of the guitar and piano, it's quite simply perfect. Review: Joni Mitchell's The Asylum Albums (1976-1980) is a comprehensive collection which documents her transformative period of musical exploration and wanderlust. Remastered by Bernie Grundman, the set includes her albums Hejira, Don Juan's Reckless Daughter, Mingus, and the live album Shadows and Light. Mitchell's shift from the "hit department" to the "art department" is evident in her collaboration with jazz virtuosos and experimental compositions. The collection is accompanied by a heartfelt essay from Meryl Streep, underscoring Mitchell's profound impact on listeners. Hejira stands out with its introspective lyrics and subdued instrumentation, while Don Juan's Reckless Daughter offers experimental music that inspired artists like Bjork. Mitchell's collaboration with jazz titan Charles Mingus on Mingus is a highlight, showcasing her immersion in jazz. The Asylum Albums (1976-1980) culminates with the double live album Shadows and Light, capturing Mitchell's electric performances during her Mingus tour. This collection is an ideal way to show her enduring influence and artistic evolution.

Review: Blending jazz, blues, and rock elements, the Morphine's sound was anything but conventional, thanks to Mark Sandman's two-string bass, Dana Colley's baritone sax and the distinct rhythm provided by drummers Jerome Deupree and Billy Conway. Co-produced by Paul Q. Kolderie (Pixies, Radiohead), Sandman and engineer Steve Folsom, this album captures Morphine's lush and immersive sound, creating a deep, noirish atmosphere that would become their signature. The album's standout tracks, like 'Buena' and 'Thursday', show Sandman's knack for lyrics that teeter on the edge of danger and ambiguity. 'Candy' offers a glimpse of vulnerability, while the title track balances tension with a flicker of hope. Colley's sax often doubles as a one-man horn section, adding both visceral intensity and ambient texture. Sandman's haunting vocals and inventive bass work, paired with Colley's occasional simultaneous play of both baritone and tenor sax, made Morphine's sound truly singular. This 2024 Run Out Groove remastered edition brings new life to the album more than 30 years on from its initial release.

Combining elements of jazz and blues with more traditional guitar arrangements, all played with what has been described as "an idiosyncratic set of instruments", to say their sound was unusual - somehow sexy and morose, introspective and compelling - would be an understatement. B Sides & Otherwise, as the title suggests, allows us a moment or 12 to indulge in the group's lesser known feats of musical genius. From live radio broadcast recordings, through to almost-made-the-album tracks, this is a great insight into just what an incredibly unique band they were, not to mention wholly innovative. Many elements and techniques here would come to be adopted by the mainstream in later years, marking the troupe out as well ahead of their time.

Review: Decades after he died, pioneering rapper Christopher Wallace aka Biggie aka B.I.G remains a hip hop giant, not least for us here at Juno HQ. He had the flow, the character, the lyrics, and showed all of it on his masterclass album The Notorious BIG. It is now getting a well deserved reissue on double vinyl, with all the original tunes included. There are uber-hits like the ubiquitous 'Juicy', tracks that make astute social commentaries about the black experience such as 'Everyday Struggle' and then some darn right killer grooves like 'One More Chance' and 'Big Poppa.' RIP to the greatest to ever do it.

Review: The Ramones had long reshaped the world of music in their beautifully twisted image by the time they recorded this, their second live album, in Spain in 1991. But the New York punks were seemingly addicted to playing live, touring relentlessly throughout the 80s and 90s, and their tightly drilled act is at fever pitch here, careering through an incredible 32 'blink and you'll miss them' tracks across four sides of vinyl. A handful of covers - there's a blistering version of The Trashmen's early rock 'n' roll stormer 'Surfin' Bird', for instance - nestle alongside timeless originals such as 'I Wanna Be Sedated', 'Beat On The Brat' and 'Sheena Is A Punk Rocker', with a healthy selection of deeper cuts from the late 80s here too. Top mayhem.

Review: The Ramones are one of those bands that everyone agrees on, to some extent, before disagreeing. Such was their career trajectory. Unanimously, the first three albums - 1976's Ramones, 77's Leave Home, and Road to Ruin (1978) - were all bonafide 20th Century works of wonder. End of the Century, which landed as the decades switched over, is where views start to divide. As such this collection of their LPs from the next ten years, or so, may not immediately jump out and grab everyone.

That's a real shame, and hopefully this package, which is the first time these records have been reissued on vinyl, will go some way towards making people remember exactly how good the vast majority if their 80s output was. Pleasant Dreams, Subterranean Jungle, and Too Tough To Die are exceptional outings that are guaranteed to put you off whatever it is you're listening to from this millennium. Throw in Animal Boy, Halfway to Sanity, Brain Drain and Still More Stuff, the latter itself a retrospective of unreleased bits from this era, and we think this is a real punk winner.

Review: Swedish pop rock duo Roxette were one of the country's breakout acts in the genre. In celebration of the 30th anniversary of their third album 'Joyride', Rhino Records have seen to a due repress in a plethora of formats, including single LP, 4xLP, and even a limited orange marble vinyl version. Remembering the proto-balearic ballad-belters' monumental rise to number 1 on the Billboard 100 chart in May 1991, this album initially sold more than 11 million copies, setting a record previously not achieved by any other Scandinavian act. This version, however, also adds a whopping 35 new and unreleased bonus tracks; check out the night-riding, cutthroat bit that is 'Hotblooded', which was initially intended to take the place of 'Joyride' as the album's lead single.

Review: Jamaican reggae and dancehall star Sean Paul did a lot to popularise the genre in the UK and US way before the current wave of artists who dominate. Dusty Rock is his seance album from back in November 2022 and it spawned plenty of chart-climbing singles that helped it, and Paul, go on to become a worldwide phenomenon. Of course, the standout single that still gets plenty of hammer is 'Gimme The Light' while 'Like Glue,' 'I'm Still In Love With You' and 'Get Busy' are all bangers, too, on a record full of big hooks, fresh rhythms and big energy.

Review: This adaptation of The Wizard of Oz features standout tracks like 'Ease on Down the Road' and 'Home' which blend r&b, funk and pop to create a fresh and dynamic sound for the legendary movie. The album's innovative approach redefined musical theatre while also setting a new standard for African-American productions. Its energetic compositions and modernised storytelling resonated with audiences which in turn gave rise to a landmark film adaptation. The production remains a significant milestone in musical history and what better way to relive it than with this vinyl version.

Review: One of the greatest house albums of all time is 20 this year. To mark the occasion the legendary French producer behind it - Ludovic Navarre aka St Germain - has selected a sympathetic team of expert remixes to add their own spin to the still classic source material. Atjazz is the perfect man to open up thanks to his deep, lounge and of course jazzy house style. Osunlade then brings his shamanistic sounds to 'Sure Thing' and it glows as a result with Ron Trent later tackling the anthemic 'Rose Rouge' and slowing it down to a lush jazz dance. With DJ Deep, Nightmares On Wax and more also featuring, this is a must cop.

Review: Rod Stewart's Foot Loose & Fancy Free, released in 1977, stands out as a definitive moment in his career. Opening with the energetic 'Hot Legs,' the album immediately hooks listeners with its rock 'n' roll vigour. The track 'You're In My Heart (The Final Acclaim)' showcases Stewart's knack for heartfelt ballads, blending tender lyrics with a captivating melody. 'I Was Only Joking' features storytelling at its best, with a blend of acoustic charm and electric intensity. The album also includes a soulful rendition of 'You Keep Me Hangin' On' and a passionate cover of Luther Ingram's '(If Loving You Is Wrong) I Don't Want To Be Right.' The band, featuring guitarists Jim Cregan and Gary Grainger, bassist Phil Chen, and drummer Carmine Appice, delivers a cohesive and dynamic sound throughout. Foot Loose & Fancy Free is a must-listen for any rock enthusiast, reaffirming Stewart's place in rock history with its blend of rockers and ballads, all beautifully produced by Tom Dowd. This reissued vinyl is a perfect addition to any collection.

Review: The expanded edition of Van Halen's For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge is the premier version for fans of the album. Originally released in June 1991, this album skyrocketed to triple platinum status and earned the band their first Grammyr Award. This remastered version, crafted by Bernie Grundman, is pristine sounding, breathing new life into classics like 'Poundcake' and 'Right Now.' The real treat, however, lies in the bonus content. Previously unreleased alternate versions of 'Right Now' and 'The Dream Is Over' provide fresh takes on beloved tracks. The highlight is the concert footage from Van Halen's December 4, 1991, Dallas performance, where the band completes a powerful setlist that blends new songs with classics from 5150 and OU812. Hits like 'Panama' and 'I Can't Drive 55' remind you of the band's versatility and enduring appeal. Additionally, the Blu-ray includes iconic music videos and the remastered album as a double LP, with a stunning Van Halen logo etching on the fourth side.
