Review: Roy Ayers' 1968 jazz opus Stoned Soul Picnic might be less beloved or revered by fans of the vibraphonist, but it is nevertheless a deeply affecting slice of jazz mindfulness and fittingly contrasting mood, consisting entirely of covers of songs by the likes of Laura Nyro ('Stoned Soul Picnic', after which the album takes its namesake), Charles Tolliver ('Lil's Paradise') and Edwin Birdsong ('What The People Say'). We now hear a full-quality reissue via Nature Sounds.

Review: Legendary LA rapper Blu's Good To Be Home was his first-ever double album when it originally dropped back in 2014. A decade on the record, which features a host of West Coast hip-hop luminaries (such as The Roots, Alchemist, Lupe Fiasco, B.o.B., Madlib, Aloe Blacc, ) remains an unapologetic celebration of LA and its musical culture. "This is my most defining record ever," said Blu at the time and it truly is a record packed with all killer and no filler. This version on Nature Sounds comes across glorious double gatefold vinyl.

Review: Shafiq Husayn has been a driving force on the Los Angeles music scene for decades. He is a producer, songwriter and vocalist who is part of the agenda setting trio Sa-Ra Creative Partners and has produced for greats like Erykah Badu, Robert Glasper, Ice-T, Bilal and Jurassic 5. The Grammy winner is also leader of the expansive The Dove Society collective with whom he links here for a new album So Gold. It's an eclectic, love-fulled fusion of jazz, cosmic soul, hip hop and r&b that is packed with lush musicianship, smooth vocal flows and timeless grooves.

Review: Talib Kweli and Madlib, two hip-hop heavyweights, have reunited for the highly anticipated Liberation 2, an expansive album exploring themes of revolution, love, and pan-Africanism, all set against Madlib's jazz-infused productions. Featuring collaborations with Q-Tip, Westside Gunn, and Mac Miller, the album is a global call for unity. Its thought-provoking lyrics and raw soundscapes showcase Kweli's enduring influence and Madlib's production prowess, paying homage to the genre's roots while pushing its boundaries. This album has been on many people's list as a potential hip-hop album of the year and we won't be at all surprised if that's where it ends up.

Review: Talib Kweli and Madlib are two of the biggest names in hip-hop, one a mic man with exceptional skills the other a beat maker like no other. They first worked tother in 2006 on a joint project and thankfully they now reunite for the highly-anticipated follow-up, Liberation 2. This is an album that is as expansive lyrically and with its themes as it is musically. As you would expect form this pari of heavyweights, the album is defined by thought-provoking lyricism and raw soundscapes that explore revolution, love, pan-Africanism, music, spirituality, and more with plenty of jazz-tinged instrumentals and guest spots from Q-Tip, Westside Gunn, Roc Marciano, Roy Ayers, Goapele, Wildchild, Pink Siifu and more.

Review: This is a new collection of gems from the one and only Augustus Pablo that has been put together to celebrate the 50th anniversary of his Rockers label, which was named after his popular sound system. The visionary artist is one of the most crucial in the reggae game over the years and is the man who is most often credited with having popularised the use of the melodica in reggae. His most fertile and influential period was the 1970s and tunes made them helped to take the sound global. This vinyl collection mixes up rare dubs and out-of-print tracks with tunes from all across his long and successful career.

Review: Nature's Sounds presents 'NY's Finest' from Pete Rock. Rock revolutionized rap production through ground-breaking studio wizardry. He made
remixes matter more than the original songs. He introduced dramatic, forceful horns to rap's sonic discussion. Pete Rock has notched these
achievements during his impeccable recording, producing and remixing career, one of the most distinguished in rap history and one that includes
collaborations with Nas, Common, Mary J. Blige, Ghostface Killah, Busta Rhymes, Public Enemy and Run-DMC, among many others.

Review: Smoke DZA and Benny The Butcher, two titans of New York hip-hop, join forces on this gritty and captivating album. Originally released in 2019, this offering is a testament to their lyrical prowess and undeniable chemistry, their verses weaving tales of street life and hustler anthems over the raw and soulful production of legendary beatmaker Pete Rock. Tracks like 'By Any Means' and 'Bullets' showcase their sharp wordplay and hard-hitting delivery, while collaborations with Westside Gunn, Conway The Machine, and Styles P add further depth and intensity to the mix. This reissue, celebrating the album's fifth anniversary, not only brings this classic back to vinyl but also includes the previously unavailable Pete Rock instrumentals, offering a deeper dive into the sonic landscape of this collaborative masterpiece.

Review: Nature Sounds have put together this special reissue album for Record Store Day Black Friday. It is a record originally from 2013 and featuring Jadakiss, NORE, Raekwon, and Sheek Louch. The whole thing was produced by Scram Jones and now it gets pressed onto wax for the first time on limited clear vinyl. The beats hit hard, with crunchy hits and urban swagger all topped off with plenty great bars from the various vocalists. It still sounds fresh today and is an essential piece for any discerning hip-hop head.

Deep Inside Of You (2:27)
World That's Not Real (3:52)
Review: When it comes to immaculately produced and brilliantly performed deep soul, you'll struggle to find a better example than Gloria Taylor's 1973 single "Deep Inside of You". The track became a favourite with DJs during the disco era thanks to its sensual groove - all elongated organ chords, gradually intensifying four-to-the-floor drums and eyes-closed guitar solos - and an awe-inspiring vocal from the Ohio-born soul-stress. This 7" reissue edition includes the marginally longer version initially featured on a later 12" single, as well as original B-side "World That's Not Real", a slightly more psychedelic soul affair that boasts another incredible vocal performance by Taylor.

Review: Brooklyn heavyweight Your Old Droog is one of the most prolific rappers in the game right now, and following up quickly on his Time LP (which featured the likes of Doom and Edan) comes this sure shot. As ever the beats sport a maverick touch where major label rock gets squashed into a funk and the drums slip and slide around seriously loose grooves. The ideas just spill out of this guy, and he's brought some co-conspirators along for the ride. Look out for Lil Ugly Mane and Billy Woods on 'Meteor Man' and Nickelus F on 'Mojito', all weighing in on another gold standard drop from a supreme mic man and producer extraordinaire.

Review: When Your Old Droog first emerged in the hip-hop scene, he was shrouded in mystery. Born in Ukraine and raised in Brooklyn, he became known for his sharp lyrics and distinct, gritty delivery. His self-titled debut marked the beginning of a prolific career and quickly established him as an underground force with mainstream appeal. Over the years, Droog has gained widespread recognition and earned co-signs from hip-hop legends. With his latest project Movie, he embraces a new chapter by collaborating with Method Man, Denzel Curry, and producers like Just Blaze and Madlib to showcase the full range of his artistry and personal journey.

Review: Your Old Droog emerges with Movie, an introspective exploration that marks a significant evolution in his career. Cloaked in anonymity a decade ago, the Ukraine-born rapper has since carved a niche for himself in hip-hop, showcasing his sharp lyricism and distinctive style. The album's title derives from a nostalgic phrase from his childhood, symbolising moments of unexpected joy. With features from Method Man and Denzel Curry, alongside production from industry heavyweights like Madlib and Just Blaze, Movie is both engaging and emotionally resonant. Tracks like 'A Damn Shame' highlight his vulnerability, while 'Mantra' delves into his immigrant experience. Droog balances introspection with a playful edge, as seen in the catchy 'Yodi Dodi'. His storytelling shines on 'The Sandbox', addressing poignant themes of struggle. Ultimately, Movie stands as a layered masterpiece, affirming Droog's status as a thoughtful artist ready to embrace the spotlight.

Review: Here comes Brooklyn's finest, Your Old Droog, with a double feature of EPs previously confined to Bandcamp. Natures Sounds have gathered together 2022's The Yodfather and The Shining and pressed them up on a platter and there's no doubt both releases are more than worthy of the extra shine. While you might expect such cinema-referencing projects to be loaded with bait samples, Droog works in more subtle ways, laying down his killer flows over those blunted, off-kilter beats that mark him out as one of the strongest voices in US hip-hop right now.
