Review: Belgian artist Kaboom Karavan is back on Miasmah Recordings with Fiasko! which embodies musical chaos-ecstatic, fun, yet deeply melancholic. It's an overwhelming experience where every sense is touched and the whole thing has been crafted for an underground rebellion against societal norms that reconnects with the inner child of black tie workers. In essence, Fiasko! is contemporary exotica created by a madman with boundless creativity and was made using a plethora of homemade instruments, including acoustic guitars, electronics, vocals by Bram Bosteels and Bart Maris contributing trumpet, tuba, and trombone, while Stefaan Smagghe adds violin and sarangi. A kaleidoscopic delight for sure.

Review: Here we have the remastered edition of Robert Lippok's Open Close Open. Originally released in 2001 on the well-respected German glitch ambient label Raster Noton, the release has built a strong buzz about it. Late last year, the decision was to remaster the EP to the delight of the fans. The first 'Open' is very minimal with a very sparse beat to it. Glitch ambient and the cuts and click style of that period is wonderfully represented by this sound. To most fans of the release, 'Close' is the reason for the buzz. The combination of field recordings, glitch and a beautiful almost movie like soundtrack to it, makes this piece one of the most beautiful ambient pieces in the genre of glitch ambient. Hearing this remastered, really brings out the beauty even more so. This new version also features the very worthy piece 'Licht' to close out the release. It is very fitting that the amazing Morr Music honor this piece by releasing it.

Review: Carpet of Fallen Leaves serves as the luminous introduction to Eddie Marcon, a folk-pop project from Eddie Corman and Jules Marcon. The collection takes in more than two decades of intimate, self-released recordings that all bring fragile beauty and melodic grace from Japan's underground psych-folk scene. Gentle guitar, soft organ and deft bass interlace with pristine vibraphone, flute and pedal steel sounds to form sparse and spare yet intricate arrangements. Collaborators like Ikuro Takahashi and Shintaro Sakamoto add their own contributions, and so songs shimmer with a real emotional depth and Eastern charm. Highlights like 'Tora To Lion' and 'Shoujo' inspire quiet wonder while capturing fleeting moments of everyday life with a real tenderness and elegance.

Review: Nobody ever said albums, or even songs, had to be about big themes and grandiose ideas. And it's this truth that has guided this lush, tranquil offering from Robin Saville. Dedicated to taking a simple stroll, whether that's through the city streets for which this album provides the perfect antidote, or captivating rural landscapes the field recordings, drone work and acoustic instrumentation feel born out of. Best heard as a complete set, while there are clear differences between the six tracks and across its 40-minute playing time, this is really all about giving yourself fully to the whole experience. Meditative in many of its qualities, it's a sumptuous exercise in relaxing the mind and feeding the soul, suited to soundtracking the remnants of a heavy weekend as much as the beginning of a fresh week.
