Mad Mood EP
Mad Mood EP (180 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: MODEIGHT 020. Rel: 12 Dec 24

Minimal/Tech House
Kaksi (7:07)
Mad Mood (7:09)
Pretty Inspiration (7:21)
Viisi (7:28)
Review: A masterful four-track offering that seamlessly blends jazz, house and minimalism, with captivating resukls. Opening with 'Kaksi,' the track drifts with a low-slung, slow-burning groove, accentuated by atmospheric tones that evoke a soothing, almost out-of-body experience. 'Mad Mood' follows, a rhythmically fluid roller with a hypnotic sequence and shimmering vocals that capture a subtle, entrancing energy. 'Pretty Inspiration' dives deep with a sub-sonic wiggle, delivering a sophisticated and immersive ride. Closing with 'Viisi,' the track rounds off the release with a graceful afterhours groove. Croft's unique ability to blend these genres makes this EP a standout, and a perfect addition to Modeight's catalog.

No Time For Wind EP
No Time For Wind EP (180 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: MODEIGHT 014. Rel: 13 Oct 22

Minimal/Tech House
Mishkitsunami (5:10)
Clouds Are Flying Down (9:11)
Dubfound & Dopustim - "Wet Heads" (6:44)
No Time For Wind (7:13)
Review: Silat Beksi's Modeight label continues to fly the flag for minimal tech house with this latest drop from Dubfound, aka Moldovan producer Dima Kulakovsky. Given the artist's long and winding background in the scene, it's no surprise to hear a classy, refined strain of club cuts twisting their way through this 12". 'Mishkitsunami' is dripping in surrealist sound design without deterring the steadfast groove, while 'Clouds Are Flying Down' revels in pinging synth tones wriggling around the drums. This is tripped out late night business for those who like to tweak out the tweaked party people just that little bit more.

Incase EP
Incase EP (180 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: MODEIGHT 016. Rel: 15 Jun 23

Minimal/Tech House
Incase (8:17)
Cleansing (8:42)
The Bounce (5:51)
Review: Modeight's ever growing roster welcomes Loopdeville for this classy new Incase EP which mixes up fractured vocals, buoyant breakbeats and ghostly tech house with plenty of acid. 'Incase' opens top with alien vocal sounds and bouncing kicks next to a soulful vocal plea to make for something full of beguiling contrasts. 'Cleansing' is a smooth and deep one with muted neon chords and a coating of vinyl crackle that is warm and alluring. 'The Bounce' is just that, a nice loose mix of rubbery bass and whirring synth tones with lively drum funk making you shake your limbs.

Time Chamber EP
Time Chamber EP (180 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: MODEIGHT 019. Rel: 15 Aug 24

Minimal/Tech House
Time Chamber (6:51)
Fun Ensemble (7:14)
A Sharp Delay (7:10)
Orange Glide (7:04)
Review: Ukrainian label Modeight is fast approaching its 20th EP and has already built up a fine body of work. Adding to that now is Raz who offers the Time Chamber EP, a fresh blend of minimal, house and tech styles. The opener 'Time Chamber' is a silky blend of underlapping minimal house drums and filtered vocals that have a future sense of soul. 'Fun Ensemble' is a little more percussive with a jumbled of congas and toms peppering the beats and 'A Sharp Delay' then speeds things up with some rolling rhythms and layers of synth adding atmosphere. 'Orange Glide' shuts down with some slightly Balearic and dreamy pads.

The Subtle Hustle EP
Cat: MODEIGHT 018. Rel: 25 Apr 24

Minimal/Tech House
The Subtle Hustle (6:13)
Beat Up Town (7:25)
Key Notes Frequency Quotes (6:57)
Have You Written On The Wall? (7:05)
Review: Wiremu popped up back in 2018 on Pathway Traxx, and now the wriggly minimal upstart is back with another crafty workout for those who like their stripped-down club gear a bit on the wonky side. 'The Subtle Hustle' has a springy, playful funkiness which calls to mind the mid-00s era of labels like Trimsound and Minibar, where there was space for a little jazziness in the miniscule samples darting around the drums. It's a quality which follows through the whole of this standout EP, which is teeming with detail and soul in equal measure.
