Explorations into Microtonal Tuning, Volume 2, which arrived only a few months before. It carries on with plenty of the same ideas and has been well received by fans and critics. The tunes are more compact than before, but with plenty of extra weird flourishes, and the record is bookended by two hugely different versions of the outfit's new but unofficial theme song 'K.G.L.W' - one is prog-folk, one is doom-metal, both are great.

Review: If you've ever examined King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard's back catalogue, the fact they've only been active as a band for eight years might surprise. Releasing an average of two full length records every 12 months since 2012, the fact each of those LPs showcases different, new and often daring sides to the outfit is probably even more reasons to stand up and take notice.

Review: It's Gizzard, baby, but not as you've perhaps heard them before. Unless you caught them on stage at one of the shows these live recordings were captured at (namely London, Manchester, Madrid, Utrecht, Milan, Barcelona and Brussels). It's impossible to truly reflect the ferocity and fun of the mighty King in the flesh, but the combination of 'Evil Star''s brooding doom guitars and 'The River''s smooth jazz funk do enough to convey the breadth and scope of what the band are about. The decision to combine multiple concert takes into one (almost) coherent whole makes more sense when you know this LP accompanies a movie of the same name. These are snapshots of life on the road from stage eye view, complete with breakneck heavy metal, stomach-smashing drum solos, and the anthemic pop of 'Let Me Mend The Past'. Concluding with the epic, 20-minute juggernaut of emotion that is 'Brief History of Planet Earth', it's in the exclusive club of live records you need to own.

Review: One of the greatest things to happen to the vinyl industry, the beloved Australian rock collective are a force to be reckoned with in terms of releases. For all their conceptual and experimental releases however, 'Omnium Gatherum' works exactly as prescribed - a latin phrase roughly translating to "just a bunch of stuff". The double LP is a collection of reworked unreleased material, as well as original music tacked on to boot - King Gizzard fans never have to worry about getting bang for their buck. Expect frenzied shredding, nu-metal cuts and the occasional synth-pop banger. The real highlight here is 'The Grim Reaper', a fusion of hip-hop and medieval instrumentation if you can believe it. Kenny-Smith's flow is no doubt influenced by the Beastie Boys era of hip-hop, a style being repopularised by the likes of Joey Valence & Brae. The album is a crazy patchwork of genres that feels not unlike watching your favourite movie in the form of a highlight reel.

Review: KG vol 2 from psychedelic iconoclasts King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard, is an intentional effort by the band to experiment with microtones and odd tunings, resulting in a not-quite-out-of-tune, but quirkily paradigm expanding set of rock harmonies. The album, first released in 2020, cycles through every style from Arabic bazaar music ('KGLW'), nu-metal ('The Hungry Wolf Of Fate'), to Burnt Friedman-style experimental freakouts ('Straws In The Wind') and electro house ('Intrasport'), cementing the band's reputation for eclecticism and multi-instrumental madness.

Review: KGLW made the colloquially-dubbed 'Timeland' furtively and in semi-secrecy around the time of their 2019 Red Rocks show, and intended it for use as an intermission piece for said three-hour marathon set. Made up of a thoroughly different palette of inspirations to their usual speedy psych-rock, the LP operates in strange surrealist dance music and instrumental beats, oddly peppered by Gizzard's classic nasal vocal twirls and hooks. Guitar rarely features. Now, this weirdo's oddball remains shrouded behind secrecy and conspiracy theories, and as such, will not feature on any DSPs. So get on it while you can, because this cream coloured vinyl version won't be around much longer before the heads snaffle it up. Just in case you vomit at its glory, it comes in and with a brown paper bag.

It's a fine follow-up to the band's thrash metal album Infest the Rats' Nest and will keep them well in with fans old and new alike.

Review: It's hard to side with anyone that goes in hard on enigmatic epic metallers King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard. When a band releases 24 studio albums you know they're sure of themselves and cult followers are almost guaranteed to support every release. When those releases come with names like PetroDragonic Apocalypse; or, Dawn of Eternal Night: An Annihilation of Planet Earth and the Beginning of Merciless Damnation you also know the band don't really care for people who take things too seriously. There's always been an interesting juxtaposition between the Gizzard's tongue in cheek persona - even the band name smacks of wry humour - and the music itself, though, and this outing is no different. Sprawling guitar-fuelled arrangements that owe as much to post punk as psychedelic and prog reign supreme, making for another powerhouse outing you can love or feel indifferent towards, but never legitimately hate.
