Soul
Tell It Like It Is
Why Worry
Review: Honey flavoured sweet soul from American legend and New Orleans, Louisiana recording artist Aaron Neville. This classic rendition of the soul standard ''Tell It Like It Is'' from 1966 shows off Aaron's occasional distinctive vocal tones in super fine delivery, assisted by a wonderful arrangement of tinkling piano, melancholic baritone sax and gently plucked guitar. This particular version may not reach the dizzy heights of the later 1969 cover version from femme fetale Betty Swann but it will nonetheless still be a huge diamond in your jewellery box of soul gems.

Funk
Robert Parker - "Barefootin'" (2:36)
Jesse Gresham Plus 3 - "Shootin' The Grease" (2:22)
Review: During the 1950s and '60s, Robert Parker was one of New Orleans most prolific rhythm and blues musicians, appearing on records alongside the likes of Fats Domino, Professor Longhair and Huey 'Piano' Smith. His biggest solo hit was undoubtedly the brilliant 1966 deep funk shuffler "Barefootin", which was the headline attraction from his debut solo album of the same name. Here it gets a welcome re-release, alongside Jesse Graham Plus 3's lesser-known "Shootin' The Grease", a tasty fusion of low-slung R&B guitar riffs, Hammond organs and simple-but-effective drum breaks. While not as well regarded as the infamous A-side, it's arguably an even heavier tune.
