Review: Like a cross between Jimothy Lacoste, Lily Allen, Mac De Marco and The Breeders, Freak Slug is a fine addition to the esteemed Future Classic record label. Freak Slug appears to gravitate towards food-themed song titles and on single 'Piece of Cake' she makes her craft seem effortless with witty wordplay and melodies flowing out of her. 'Liquorice' is a bigger sounding tune, with a bit of Weezer kick, while 'Ya Ready' leans into a post-grunge territory with more serious, affecting somber tones and 'Sexy Lemon' has shades of Superorganism. A solid effort from a fast-rising star.

Review: This is Sophie at her most unruly and most exacting. The Glasgow-born producer disassembles her debut and reanimates it as a 94-minute, two-part odyssey, veering from hydraulic club destroyers to delicate ambient unspoolings. Originally released in 2019, it’s not just a remix collection but a wholesale reinvention: self-authored, nonlinear, and often sublime. ‘Ponyboy (Megadog)’ thrashes through chrome-plated rhythms with chaotic grace, while ‘Infatuation (Midnight Zone)’ pulls back into pure atmosphere, full of liquid clarity and hushed suspense. There’s a tactile, metallic intensity to everything here — especially on ‘Faceshopping (Euphoric Reduce Me To Nothingness Remix)’, which warps the original’s plasticity into something wilder and more abstract. The album’s sequencing mimics the logic of a club set or memory — sonic ideas introduced, warped, returned to — but what lingers most is the emotional palette: euphoric, alien, intimate. Sophie’s sound across the project fuses dancetechnoambienthouse into a sculptural, shape-shifting form that foregrounds identity and sensation. At a time when many remix albums serve as filler, this stands apart: fiercely curated, radically personal, and technically peerless.

Review: Future Classic and Transgressive Records pair up to reissue SOPHIE's game-changer 2018 debut album Oil Of Every Pearl's Un-Insides, much recognised now as a sonic cornerstone of everything limitless and latex-clad, bottling much of the feeling and sentiment that characterised the late 2010s. Now seeing a "fruit-punch" 2xLP edition, the labels seek to retrospect; after SOPHIE's untimely death in 2021, an instant icon was madeof the otherwise still burgeoningly famous of Sophie Xeon, whose ability to get the absolute best out of the synthesis tools at her disposal - such as the rather opaque Elektron Monomachine - signified an unparalleled love for her craft. Once more, OOEPUI will make immaterial materialists out of all of us.

Minimal/Tech House
Acid Latino (Sonido Real) (5:14)
De2 Locura (5:34)
Feel 2 Real (5:22)
Ibis (feat Caravan) (5:58)
Review: While she's been making moves as a club DJ in recent times, Paula Tape has not released a record since 2021. This EP, whose title doffs a cap to her Chilean roots, is therefore well overdue. It's rather good too, as proven by opener 'Acid Latino (Sonido Real)', where distinctively South American melodies, TB-303 tweaks and echo-laden spoken word snippets rise above a bold acid house bassline, tough beats and layered percussion. 'Feel 2 Real' sees our hero reach for sparkling house pianos, deep bass, sharper acid lines and spacey synths, while 'De2 Locura' is warmer, heavier and more melodically complex. To round off a fine EP, she joins forces with Caravan for the sax-laden South American house excellence of 'Ibis', a track as percussively intense as it is sonically seductive and sub-heavy.
