Review: ***B-STOCK: Creasing to corner of outer sleeve but otherwise in excellent condition***

Holden's 2006 debut album was an astonishing one that gets a timely reissue on double crystal-clear splatter vinyl. A high watermark for proudly synthetic and computer made music, it was the bold arrival of an artist who endures as an innovator to this day. "The Idiots Are Winning" is a masterclass in unhinged grooves, glitchy electronic sounds and mutant sounds that set a new benchmark in experimental textures, sound design and dance floor clout. "Idiot" is the standout banger, "Lump" is more trippy and heat workout, and "10101" is the twitchy and mesmeric workout you cannot escape. Music as idiosyncratic as this doesn't come along too often, and even 13 years left it still sounds fresh.

Review: Electronic music production deity James Holden returns with a circling back to his dance music roots, following a brief detour into jazz with his last album 'The Animal Spirits'. Building on an increasingly otherworldly set of inspiration - which he's gradually entertained as his career has marched on - this new LP 'Imagine' playfully dissects the possibilities of dance music from the perspective of an alternate reality. Buzzing leads, detuned leads, and international flavours evoke a modern take on sounds espoused first by the likes of Amorphous Androgynous or Charanjit Singh.

Review: We're asked to Imagine This Is A High Dimensional Space Of All Possibilities. But the twist is, this plane of existence we somehow find ourselves in already is. Such is the overarching fable at the heart of James Holden's new album. The esteemed electronic musician and DJ knows as much, and is quoted to have said 'I want this to be my most open record, uncynical, naive, unguarded, the record teenage me wanted to make'. So, a high dimensional space of all possibilities can be found within us, right where we started - not some other dimension or higher plane of consciousness. All this is conveyed pretty neatly through Holden's crushed bitscapes, future techno ambientrancers, and exploration of revolutionary themes. Like exploring a bountiful rainforest full of bohemians and mushrooms, longtime fans and newcomers alike are sure to be delighted.

Review: The long awaited return of James Holden is over. He's back again on his own Border Community imprint with an outstanding collection of tracks that are so aurally satisfying, you'll understand just exactly why this record has been so outrageously anticipated. In just a few years, James Holden's Border Community has established itself as one of the foremost breeding grounds for fresh young production talent in the world. This is the first collection of James Holden material on Border Community. Border Community is one of the most respected underground dance labels in the world. James has remixed such stars as Madonna and Depeche Mode to more underground artists like Black Strobe and Nathan Fake. The label has proven with the success of the Nathan Fake album that it's not just a 12" label, but a label that can release quality underground albums.

Luke Abbott - "555hz" (16:23)
Review:  Last year, Border Community heavyweights James Holden and Luke Abbott took part in a special performance to mark the 80th birthday of minimalist legend Terry Riley. Here, the extended pieces they performed that night are finally released. Holden's 46-minute piece - performed with tabla player Camilo Tirado, and created by writing a special sequencer for his modular synthesizer - is little less than an exotic, slowly evolving masterpiece, up there with the American composer's finest synthesizer works. Abbott's "555Hz", on the other hand, is an altogether deeper and more languid affair, but no less enthralling. Built around droning, drawn-out chords and subtle melodic shifts, it bubbles away attractively like the greatest intergalactic ambience.
