Envision EP

Virtual Reality (Scan 7 remix) (6:49)
Envision (6:18)
Fragrance (8:39)
Stranger Things (5:52)
Review: Hungarian-born, Dublin-based Phil Robertson has some pedigree but Arbilla is a new name he's operating under, and indeed there seems to be a slightly more musical, less relentless angle to his once defiantly minimal sound to go with the new moniker too. He provides three of the four tracks here, from the chunky and dramatic 'Stranger Things' and the breezy, spacious 'Fragrance' to the EP's glorious title track, with its Plaid-like syncopation and spiralling melodies. Mysterious techno 'supergroup' from Detroit, Scan 7 remix 'Virtual Reality' and they whip it into thunderclapping Underground Resistance shape. Greatness in evidence whichever way you turn.

Review: Tresor Records is celebrating the legacy of Detroit techno pioneers Scan 7 with the reissue of their debut album, Dark Territory. Originally released in 1996, this influential LP has been remastered from the original DAT files by Mike Grinser, with select tracks like 'Unusual Channel' mixed by techno legend Blake Baxter. The reissue features updated artwork and comes in a double vinyl format, preserving the raw energy and forward-thinking sound that defines the album. Dark Territory is a masterclass in techno minimalism, characterised by tough, groovy rhythms and a deep, restrained atmosphere. Tracks like 'Planet Energy' showcase Scan 7's ability to build tension with precision, holding back before unleashing powerful basslines that electrify the dancefloor. The group's leader, Trackmaster Lou, conveyed his vision of techno's future with each track, blending Detroit's signature machine-funk with a darker, moodier edge. Scan 7's debut was ahead of its time. Even nearly 30 years later, it still feels fresh, reaffirming their place in techno's pantheon. The remastered release allows a new generation to experience the depth and innovation of Dark Territory in a new package.

Review: Hallowed Ground is a six-track compilation that showcases the depth and variety of Detroit Techno, featuring renowned artists and fresh talents alike. Opening with Scan 7's 'Detroit Built The First Techno Museum,' the track sets a sophisticated tone, rooted in the city's rich musical history. Inohs Sivad's 'Sxerendade' follows with a house anthem highlighted by sultry vocals, adding a layer of sensuality. EM-i-Cee's 'Bounce Glxtch' offers a techy groove, providing a perfect transition to the flip side. AUX88's 'This Is What U Want' delivers crunchy electro beats that will resonate with fans of classic Detroit sounds. The compilation continues with Scan 7's 'I Am From Detroit' (Dre Brown remix), a fresh take that keeps the city's spirit alive. Man With No Name's 'Devil His Due' takes listeners on a Drexciyan electro journey, adding an intriguing edge. Scott Avery closes the set with 'Sxerenade' (Low-Key Seduction mix), wrapping up the compilation with a smooth, seductive vibe. Hallowed Ground is a compelling collection for any techno enthusiast.
