Since it launched roughly a year ago, the 20:20 Midnight Visions label has established itself as a worthy outlet for the various strains of bass indebted UK dance subculture, incorporating material from Ossie, Doc Daneeka, Photomachine and Behling & Simpson. With previous on left_blank, Dummy and Church, young Brighton producer Lorca passes the zeitgeist test with flying colours and his three original productions on the If I Told You EP are some of his most accomplished work to date. The title track sets the tone, with doleful melodic touches and an expertly chopped titular vocal refrain augmented by some fine kinky percussive edits. "Searching" sinks even deeper into the maudlin end of the Bass music spectrum, with rhythmic elements at a minimum to let the palpable atmospherics dominate the channels, whilst "Giant Stars" feels like it's ready to spring skywards at any moment. To crank up the current factor, Madtech and Love Fever artist Citizen remixes the title track, nudging it much closer to the thick set textured house he's been noted for recently.
