Review: Legendary London label and record shop Rough Trade is celebrating its formative years from 1978 to 1993 the only way it knows how - with music. Founded in 1977, Rough Trade has consistently championed innovative artists from Metal Urbain to its current roster including Amyl and The Sniffers, Pulp and Jockstrap, always capturing the DIY spirit and musical daring that have defined its legacy for over 45 years. This limited-edition 7" singles boxset was curated by co-MDs Jeannette Lee and Geoff Travis and feature some of their favourite singles from the label's early days, from reggae king Augustus Pablo - who launched the label - to Subway Sect, Stiff Little Fingers and on to Cabaret Voltaire. The 'Pip LFO' is a compact 4HP all analogue low frequency oscillator with a wide frequency range, voltage control, numerous outputs, reset input and a VCO mode.

LFO speed is set via a manual control and voltage control input. There is a unipolar square wave output along with both bipolar and uni-polar triangle, saw and sine waveform outputs.

When VCO mode is activated, the frequency jumps to audio range and will track V/Oct for approx 5 octaves. A reset input allows the LFO waveform cycle to be reset and produces hard sync functionality in VCO mode.

The 'Pip Filter' is a compact 4HP voltage controlled 2 pole low-pass filter with resonance, a 'pingable' trigger input and built in VCA.

Filter cutoff is controlled via both knob control and dual CV inputs with a built in attenuverter.

Resonance is manually controlled and will reach into self oscillation with rough V/Oct tracking.

A trigger input allows the filter to be pinged for percussive plucked type sounds. Finally, a built in VCA (normalled open) allows for additional independent amplitude control of the filtered signal.

Review: American songwriter and composer Patricia Barber's marked her breakthrough with Modern Cool, an album driven by her captivating take on The Doors' 'Light My Fire.' Her performance of the album at The Jazz Standard caught the attention of Blue Note's Bruce Lundvall and lead to a celebrated run of releases and international acclaim. Modern Cool became an audiophile favourite thanks to Jim Anderson's meticulous recording and Barber's sharp songwriting and artistry, and it still sounds super here as reissued by Impex on VR900-D2-pressed 180-gram vinyl. It's the perfect way to enjoy a real jazz classic.

Review: This has been described as Shelflife for Calibre's 120-140 material. If you know the means, methods and magic of Dominic Martin, you'll already have this in your basket. But in case you need a little extra info or new to the abyssal vaults of Calibre, the Shelflife series is a regular collection of projects and unreleased material he's made over the years. While best known for his d&b, his house, techno and dub material is just as prolific, deep and mesmerising. As is the case here as we range from steppy, curmudgeonly techno ('Front Loader') to funky electro style breaks ('The Saki') to bumping shufflesome house ('Ukrained') to vast spacious dub ('Come With Me') Complete with many other deep and reflective shades between, this is yet another fantastic body of work from one of electronic music's most unique and revered artists.

Review: This definitive 2025 edition of the Donkey Kong Country soundtrack has been meticulously recreated by Jammin' Sam Miller using original SNES data and studio-grade equipment. Originally released in 1994, the game's music, featuring classics like 'Aquatic Ambiance' and 'Fear Factory', redefined video game soundtracks. This triple-vinyl boxset takes in all of the many highlights with fixed playback speeds and refreshed packaging. It's a nostalgic listen for those old enough to have been gaming back in the mid-nineties but also a rich source of samples for adventurous modern producers.

Notes: Module A-145 is a low frequency oscillator, which produces cyclical control voltages in a very wide range of frequencies.

Five waveforms are available: sawtooth, inverted sawtooth, triangle, sine and square wave. The LFO can be used as a modulation source for any number of modules - for instance modulating the pulse width or frequency of a VCO, modulation of the cut-off frequency of a VCF, or amplitude modulation with a VCA.

Review: Either you weren't born, or Dire Straits' Brothers in Arms turning 40 this year will make you feel decidedly long in the tooth. It's an unquestionable landmark for one of the best-selling albums of all time. - CVV Input (defines the velocity value assigned to the Midi note message), can be used alternatively for Midi volume (CC#7), range 0...+5V

For both sub-units a common CV Transpose input is available (1V/octave, range 0...+10V). The voltage applied to this input is added internally to CVN before the Midi note number is generated. It can be used e.g. to transpose two sequences simultaneously by one voltage.

How it works:

Whenever the rising edge of the Gate input is recognized a Midi note on message is generated. The note number corresponds to the sum of the voltages applied to the CVN input and the common CV Transpose Input that is present at the rising edge of the gate signal.
