Review: It's been a good week for Asylum, whose robust contributions to the Persistence's just-released third multi-artist EP have been picking up major plaudits. This limited-edition 7" single sees the unheralded producer mark his debut solo release with a decidedly spooky and foreboding chunk of industrial IDM. It boasts droning, fuzzy guitars and dystopian melody lines rising above a distorted, off-kilter drum rhythm. On the B-side, Downwards co-founder and '90s techno survivor Regis provides a remix that harnesses the inherent exoticism at the heart of Asylum's original while stripping back some of the darker elements that make the original version such a moody listen. His sparse but rolling drums are particularly impressive.

Review: The overdetermination of many sources of inspiration fed the making of this new EP by Asymmetrical (Giovanni Inglese), whose regular top-ups for the label have earned him his very own catalogue number reservation, this one coming as no exception. Said inspirations include: the digit 7, elevated to the status of Jim Carrey's number 23; a sticker glimpsed in a bathroom in a north-west Rome nightclub; and a long gestation of studio sessions, committed to between 2018 and 2020. The result was a slurrying EBM release of the coldest affect, consisting largely of all-consuming licky bass, mussitating monologues ('Estetica Della Notte' tells the tale of assuming nocturnal form while under the domed hoardings of Rome's famous Pantheon) and subtly vampiric overtones ('Porno Incubo').

Angry enough to make you feel like there is still hope, and innovative enough to make you wonder whether - in an increasingly risk-averse music industry - enough people will get to know and love them. Review: Oliver Ho inaugurates his new imprint under the Broken English Club alias "where absurdist melodrama meets vile electronics." This new 7" inch features two raw and confronting tracks: on Side A we have the title track with its pounding and trance inducing tribal drums backing an onslaught of alien vocals, swimming in layers of noise and distortion; riveting stuff! On the flip "Our History In Bones" harks back to the chilling drone rock experiments as heard on his tremendous Suburban Hunting LP last year with his trademark nonchalant vocals in yet another brilliant display of modern post-punk interpretation.

Review: Second time around for 'Bloody Language', a 2014 single from Italian industrial scene veterans Control Unit. Appearing again on translucent green vinyl in an ultra-limited pressing of 100, the record offers a good introduction to the dystopian musical world of the outfit's principle players, guitarist/vocalist Ninni Morgia and synth player/vocalist Silvia Kastel. 'Bloody Language' is raw, fuzzy and intense, with squealing lead guitar solos and Kastel's angry, stylized vocals rising above Nine Inch Nails style riffs and punky drums. It comes accompanied by an even more punk-fuelled bonus cut, 'Alarm', and a freakish post-industrial number on the flip - the beat-free, end-of-days soundscape that is EP highlight 'Forbidden Thoughts'

Review: Damien Dubrovnik return to one of our favourite boutique labels, Alter, who have also released a pair of mythical EPs by Jamal Moss, among others, and who somehow manage to always cherry pick the best tracks from each artist! "Penis Corset" is just as nasty as the name suggests, where gritty synth stabs meet raucous beats in a veritably industrial coating, while "Patterns Of Penetration" is more subtle than it's monster counterpart, but nonetheless abrasive. It's another banger, that's for sure...

Review: Esplendor GeomEtrico was a pioneer in the noise world and this record is one of his most edgy and advanced works of all. It is noisy, gauzy, confrontational and frankly weird for the way it mangles synths, layers up distortion and contorts vocals into dark apparitions and paranoid sound worlds. This is the first and only legitimate reissue of the record which was initially only pressed in very small quantities after an enigmatic fan decided to help out and stump up the funds. The artwork is as iconic and disturbing as the music itself and the DIY, experimental nature of the music still arrests your attention all these years later.
