Review: It would be fair to say that Dominick Fernow is one of experimental music's more esteemed and prolific exponents. So far this year, Fernow has issued albums as Exploring Jezebel, Vatican Shadow and Prurient for Blackest Ever Black, Modern Love, and Profound Lore respectively. The latter, Frozen Niagara Falls, makes the transition to triple vinyl having first been released on CD and cassette format back in May. Cited by many as Fernow's most accomplished album to date, it's easy to see why here with Frozen Niagara Falls an end-of-days mixture of intense white noise, snarled, often screamed vocals, and fizzing, industrial electronics. Occasional bursts of crystal clear electronic melodies and bittersweet ambience offer brief respite from the madness.

Review: Although Dominic Fenrow has released work under many aliases over the years (Vatican Shadow and Rainforest Spiritual Enslavement being amongst the most celebrated), it was as Prurient with which he made his name. To celebrate two decades of the lauded "doom electronics" project, Fenrow has delivered the most expansive Prurient album yet: a quadruple-disc, three hour-plus exploration of macabre drone textures, intense industrial soundscapes, foreboding electronica and post-apocalyptic ambience. It's a bleak but nevertheless stunning piece of work, with Fenrow being joined in the studio by Jim Mroz (Lussuria) and Matt Folden (Dual Action), with post-production contributions from Shifted and Paul Corley. In summary: thrillingly dystopian.

Review: Hospital Recordings boss Dominick Fernow returns to his uncompromising Prurient alias, adding yet another chapter to an enormous body of existing work. Like the first Prurient live performance 20 years earlier, the 'Rainbow Mirror' lineup consisted of three members - Fernow called upon Matt Folden (Dual Action) and Jim Mroz (Lussuria) to form the trio for this ambitious work. There will be familiar sounds from previous moments in Fernow's discography - piercing and textural guitar feedback much like 'Arrowhead' on Editions Mego back in 2008, chilling glacial drone pieces, moments of unadulterated noise abrasions and interludes of deconstructed industrial music often - accompanied by his guttural or shrieking vocal performances. All of the material was recorded live in the studio and later meticulously mixed and produced by Shifted aka Alexander Lewis (Avian) at his studio in Berlin, with expert mastering by Paul Corley.

Review: Unknowns was first offered as a super-limited cassette bundled with a rare boxed version of Dominick Fenrow's 2017 Prurient album, Rainbow Mirror. Here presented on vinyl for the first time, it sees the prolific Fenrow join forces with Skin Crime man Patrick O'Neill (Hanged Man's Orgasm was an alias he used in the late '80s and early '90s), writer Scott Bryan Wilson and synthesizer player and all round studio don Kris Lapke. There are two 15-minute plus epics to enjoy, both of which mix dystopian noise and heavily processed samples with skewed synthesizer parts, '90s modem noises and barely audible excerpts of the ever entertaining Fenrow reading Wilson's expressive prose. For the record, it's the B-side cut that's the most apocalyptic.

Techno
  1. Call 1
  2. Call 2
  3. Call 3
  4. Call 4
Review: Dominic Fernow dons his Prurient hat for this split release with Karl O'Connor as Ugandan Methods. As you might expect, it's not for the light-hearted; "Call 1" features the Downwards boss' dense, grainy broken beats mixed with Fernow's wounded screeches amid bursts of white noise. "Call 2" is built on a similar approach, but this time the churning noise and dense drums are interspersed with dramatic, dark synths that spiral and twist. The third "Call" provides a surprise, heading back to the loopy techno of early Downwards, but it's only a temporary deviation and the fourth and final "Call" sees the duo deliver a drum-led, droning rhythm.
