Review: Chinese audio-visual duo Zaliva D have been making waves on the underground for over ten years, though this Knekelhuis label debut marks their first ever appearance on vinyl. So was it worth the wait? Most certainly! Out there, intergalactic and alien, the seven tracks see the pair wrap unusual, Far East-inspired synthesizer motifs and tumbling lead lines over a range of unusual drum machine rhythms, often foreboding chords and some seriously wonky, manipulated vocals. Review: The second release on Elena Colombi's Osare! Editions imprint is something rather special: a retrospective of little-known works by Greek composer Thanasis Zlatanos that combines previously released solo work from the 1980s with cuts recorded with his band Nekropolis and material buried in his vast archive of unheard tracks. It's a vibrant and deliciously off-kilter collection of synthesizer-heavy pieces that join the dots between wave music, skewed leftfield pop, ambient, new age and, most surprisingly, Macedonian folk music. The plentiful highlights include the ghostly, traditional-meets-futuristic new age electronica of "The Crystal Sight (Excerpt II)", the doom-laden coldwave throb of "Master Chameleon", the Vocoder-laden operatic poignancy of "The New Barbarians" and the bass-laden slacker pop headiness of "No Expectations".

Review: Long before finding greater fame with his releases on L.I.E.S and Future Times, Steve Moore worked alongside percussionist and electronics wizard A.E Patera as Zombi. Self-releasing their debut album in 2001 (later to be reissued in 2007, alongside the brilliant Twilight Sentinel 12"), the duo became famed on the underground for their murky, otherworldly fusions of alien elecrtronics, coldwave compositions and lo-fi rock influences. This anthology, first released back in 2003, collects together their eponymous debut album and the previously mentioned 12", offering a glimpse into their distinctive aural world. It's undeniably stranger than Moore's melodious recent efforts, but contains a similar fascination with vintage synthesizers and, in the case of the epic "DMC12", the hypnotic allure of krautrock.

Review: Zru Vogue is a two man post punk avant-pop group from Palo Alto, California, combining the talents of Andrew Finkle and Rick Cuevas. The band began in 1980 as a four member group: Rick, Andy, Tom Sanders and Nancy Miller. Tom and Nancy left the group shortly after the first single, "Nakweda Dream", was released by independent San Francisco label Adolescent Records in February 1981. Inspired by rave reviews and heavy airplay on alternative radio stations, Andy and Rick went back into the studio, now as a duo, to record some new ZRU tracks. The self-tilted LP was released on the band's Zero Risk Records in 1982. It contains eight compositions blending African tribal and Middle Eastern rhythms, avant-garde rock, minimal electronics, and funk-rock guitars. The duo's sound is inspired by the art and anti-art movements of Dada and Surrealism. All songs have been remastered by George Horn at Fantasy Studios. Each copy is housed in a replica of the original jacket, which features artwork by the group members, and includes the original 2-sided lyric sheet.
