  3. Beland In Bed (4:37)
  4. Nachtdichter (2:45)
Review: There's something strangely alluring about this curious - but undoubtedly inspired - debut EP from Belgian producer Victor De Roo. While brand new, it draws influence from a variety of vintage styles - Berlin school ambient, new wave, The Duratti Column and leftfield European synth-pop, in particular - and sounds like it could have been recorded straight to cassette in about 1984. De Roo's quirky, atmospheric musical sketches - the slo-mo early morning dream pop of "Voorbenachte Rade", spacey synth-scape "Beland In Bed", post-punk Factory Records drone of "Nachtdichter" and beautiful opener "Gewoon" - all come accompanied by stylish spoken word vocals by fellow Low Countries resident Alex Deforce, whose Flemish drawl adds an extra layer of cultured artiness.

  4. Go Forward (3:49)
Review: Laurene Exposito is back on Amsterdam's Knekelhuis with a follow up to her well received debut album. This new record is said to be very personal - life changes and her love life are said to be central themes. All tracks have been recorded at Exposito's home in the Rennes, France using all analogue equipment. Starting out with the seductive coldwave tribute "Yellow Density" which features some inventive synth action that reaches near acid moments over her deadpan vocals. On the flip, title track "Cocktail Mexico" goes for some Dopplereffekt style electro shenanigans and "Go Forward" conjuring up comparisons to early Tropic Of Cancer on this hazy lo-fi goth journey.

Review: After last year's excellent discoveries from Volume 1, Mark Van De Maat presents more unreleased Dutch cassette material. Featuring a wide range of DIY and experimental artists such as Van Kaye, The Hi-Tones with their rather Dead Can Dance sounding "Ibrahim", Another and their lo-slung no-wave antics on "Paris Tribe" and Strung with their EBM thriller "Warschau Pact". It provides a glimpse into the artistic DIY music movement that was growing extensively outside of mainstream circles of the time. For this sequel, they dug deep into the Dutch lowlands and discovered yet more amazing musicians and their independent music that sounds just as exciting today.

  7. Path (5:40)
Review: Chinese audio-visual duo Zaliva D have been making waves on the underground for over ten years, though this Knekelhuis label debut marks their first ever appearance on vinyl. So was it worth the wait? Most certainly! Out there, intergalactic and alien, the seven tracks see the pair wrap unusual, Far East-inspired synthesizer motifs and tumbling lead lines over a range of unusual drum machine rhythms, often foreboding chords and some seriously wonky, manipulated vocals. Highlights include the buzzing late night paranoia of "Wicked", the skewed cold wave-pop of "Gone With The Pest", the ultra-deep creepiness of "Path" and the glacial, lost-in-space solitude of "Foresaken".
