Review: More crazy acid flashbacks from Berlin's zany Libertine camp, courtesy of Madrid's Aaron Corpas aka Corp - his second release for the label since Traditions 04 back almost a year ago. In line with the label's modus operandi, the Spanish producer serves up some all analogue sounding jams that borrow from early UK bleep techno and Detroit first wave aesthetics: from the breakbeat driven rave energy of "System Off", the 313 electro funk of "Say It Again" and some seriously neon-lit retroversion on the crazy "Diggers?".

Review: Italian expats Yoshi and Sbri run the Libertine imprint out of Berlin and the party of the same name, held down at the iconic Jannowitzbrucke district. Their label brings a renewed focus to often overlooked or even forgotten producers of the vintage techno realm, having previously shone the spotlight on legends such as Justin Morgan aka Ruseden, Ann Arbor's Andy Crosby aka Spesimen of (Infocalypse Records) and Miami electro-bass underdog Gosub. Their attention now focuses on one Scott Edward Hodgson, a London based producer highly active throughout the '90's on his on Beau Monde imprint, in addition to running Out Of Orbit: a sublabel of the legendary Roman imprint ACV, which was operated by the legendary Leo Anibaldi and Robert Armani. Expressive rhythm patterns, otherworldly synth textures plus certain suspense and a distinct aesthetic overall: which is absolutely timeless.

  8. Acid Lemon Bits (9:07)
Review: Berlin retroverts Libertine are back with more jolly jams as part of their Traditions series, now with some unearthed tapes from Khan aka German producer Can Oral - founder of I'm Single /Super 8 and brother of Cem Oral from Air Liquide. He's released on a heap of seminal imprints since the early '90s, such as Mille Plateaux, Direct Drive, Playhouse and Cheap - so if you don't know about this guy: it's time you got familiar! Featured here are a bunch of zany acid flashbacks that perfectly freeze frame a very particular aesthetic in the Berlin based producer's storied past. Tracks like "Slow Stepper" or "20.02.94" are the zeitgeist of the capital's techno scene in the early '90s (and just as good as anything on Cabinet Records at the time), while "Mutama" goes for a more experimental edge with its snarling FM breaks. Finally "Acid Lemon Bits" gets all moody and tunnelling for those heads down moments on the dancefloor.

Techno
  1. Chorionic Architecture (6:52)
  2. Ghost Hacker (7:36)
  3. Sensorium (6:32)
  4. Hygenia (7:15)
Review: Berlin retroverts Libertine are back with their seventh edition and once again seem to have unearthed some slept on classics, this time in the form of Mr Suspicious aka Steve Law. Law is an undisputed legend of Melbourne's electronic music scene, mainly known for his trance/ techno exploits as Zen Paradox (on the local Psy-Harmonics imprint) in addition to seminal releases for the seminal Belgian imprint Nova Zembla. Mr Suspicious was only responsible for a couple of EPs between 1997 - 1998 and we can only guess that these tracks are from the same period. From the deep sonar transmissions of "Chorionic Architecture" or the steely slow-burning machine funk of "Ghost Hacker" on the A side. The flip features a couple of more straight ahead cuts: the bleepy rhythm focused DJ tool "Sensorium" and the tunnelling and euphoric stroboscopy of "Hygenia". Props to the lads at Libertine for giving more exposure to this underrated legend.

Minimal/Tech House
  1. Onur Ozer - "Hcore" (6:57)
  2. Etienne - "Ruhso" (6:00)
  3. Yoshi & Saverio Celestri - "Revolt" (6:53)
Review: Libertine Records loves a good collaboration. All of the label's releases to date have either been multi-artist affairs, or contained tracks that bring together a numerous members of their production roster. They've opted to follow the same blueprint on Libertine 004. They begin with the weirdo-Italo/lo-fi EBM/dusty analogue techno thrust of Onur's "Hcore", before allowing Etienne the chance to combine speaker-shaking bass, bleep style electronics and hustling house rhythms on the impressive "Ruhso". Finally, regular collaborators Yoshi and Saverio Celestri join forces once more on "Revolt", a suitably rough-and-ready fusion of bustling drum machine hits, winding synth melodies and semi-discordant electronic noises.
