Review: We're used to hearing Anton Zap dealing in deeper than deep house, so it's intriguing to hear the Russian artist pivoting to a more experimental outlook for this record on fresh label Introspection Audio Limited. '2 VCO', as the name implies, finds Zap exploring synthesis with some hand-wrought modulation and warm, agile sequences, leaving beats behind to let the fluid movement of the oscillators bring the energy to the track. There are drums on hand for 'Virus', but here they move in fractured formations with a scuffed patina which wouldn't sound out of place on Skam. 'Change URSLF' once again jettisons obvious drums for a heavily dubbed voyage between arrhythmic crags of tone and texture, keeping a sense of melodic charm even as the track heads to the outer limits. 'Meosphere' finishes the record in a smudged immersion of underwater electronica, rounding out a picture of Zap exploring new sonic pastures and striking gold.
