Review: Repress! Excellent sounding pressing of an impossibly rare LP track, that has never sounded as clear or dynamic as this version. Originally recorded live in the First Baptist Church in Crown Heights, New York City, in 1982 and pressed only for the congregation, Walter Gibbons (owner of Jus Born studios and a new born Christian at the time of the recording) acquired a copy and played it out at the 7th Avenue. Rock & Soul shop were he worked. This was the place where most discerning DJs and soulful dance music aficionados picked up on this new sound, and it quickly became a Garage, Loft and Zanzibar club classic, championed by Larry Levan, David Mancuso and others.

When we told Dimitri From Paris about our 10 project, he was insistent that if he was going to remix an Imagination record that it would be this one. Dimitri needs no introduction as his love and knowledge of disco is legendary. The compilations he does are instant collector's items and his productions are a clever balance between disco and house. Here he delivers two superb mixes.

Review: 1982 was a time of bad suits, bad haircuts and Men At Work. Thankfully the music wasn't all bad, especially that coming from Imagination, a group of backing singers turned pop stars. "Just An Illusion" reached a top ten position in the UK national charts when it was originally released and has been a staple on radio stations and compilations for 25 years. But it was also a huge underground club hit in the UK before it enjoyed commercial chart success, and has been in some of the most credible record boxes ever, including the likes of Harvey and Erol Alkan. Bearing this in mind we wanted to rekindle its underground heritage by choosing a remixer away from the norm, Hans-Peter Lindstrom is anything but the norm. He was born and raised on country & western on the west coast of Norway. Now residing in Oslo, he is a multi-talented musician and over the last few years has become one of the world's hottest underground producers, making electronic music with a nerve.

Review: It's been a while since we've heard from the Editions Disco crew, and that's because our friends have been rather busy! Luckily, Prince Language has also found time to create the epic "You Can't Go" - a massive, dubbed-out re-working of Harold Melvin And The Blue Notes' "Don't Leave Me This Way", a Philly disco classic that was a huge track for the likes of Ron Hardy, Larry Levan and pretty much everyone else that matters. On the flipside we have "Sun Sun Sun" by Boston's K Civ - he transforms Jakki's original Paradise Garage and Loft favourite into a dark, druggy rhythmic workout with an ominously funky spiralling bassline that gives it a much more dirty and hard-edged feeling than the original.

Review: After the release of the great full length album with rare unreleased tracks by Robotnick, here a great 12" with deep stringy cosmic disco that was recorded in 1982 but sounds like it could have been done yesterday by Putsch 79 or Metro Area. Way ahead of it's time! Comes with amazing remixes by Lindstrom & Prins Thomas and Bangkok Impact. Lindstrom & Prins Thomas seem to be the guys of the moment with his amazing remixes and great album and 12" releases. These guys just can't do wrong. Hans Peter Lindstrom & Thomas drop an massive club version of the original. Same deal for Bangkok Impact. The Finnish boy wonder who is known for his amazing disco-ish electro funk. 2 dancefloor killers from the most Northern parts of Europe as tribute to Alexander Robotnick!!

Review: Jay Shepheard is a new name from the UK who had his first release on the Sounds Like Soul imprint run by fellow Juno Records employee Adam Roberts. "Compost Black Label 19" is a nice four track EP that combines influences from Italo disco, US, deep and acid house, vintage techno and the modern minimal sounds. John 'Jay' Shepheard fell in love with electronic music in the 90s when his older sister introduced him to pirate tapes from the London rave scene. This affection even flourished with an encounter with jungle and UK garage. Naturally decks and a sampler came next as Jay become immersed in this fascinating new world of sounds. Soon Jay advanced into the inner spheres of the music business. Besides starting a career at the online record store Juno, he worked as club DJ, press officer and studio hand at south London based 'Studio 207', used by acts like Basement Jaxx and Mutiny. His studio skills soon benefited from the exposure at '207' and a year or so later his first releases came out under the alias John Julian (first and middle names). Compost Black label presents a really nice release here.
