The latest missive on Andrea Parker's admirable Touchin' Bass label comes from Maria Gamboa Perez, a "guitarist, drummer, mathematician and multidisciplinary improviser" who operates under the alias NonZero!. "Matrix Equation" is moody, dark, clandestine and breathless, with Perez and collaborator Carl Finlow (yep, the British electro legend) layering buzzing electronics, looped modular noise, no wave style guitar motifs and intense melodies over a variety of clanking metallic rhythms. It's not quite industrial music, electro or EBM, but rather a fusion of the three - and dark ambient - that rewards repeated listening sessions.
