Wiggle Me This (5:06)
Review: Mark Broom is a techno veteran, but just because he enjoys that sot of status doesn't mean he has lost his edge. He proves that here with a hefty new record on Radio Salve's mighty Rekids. It bangs from the off with his signature heavy drums defining each of the tracks across all four sides of vinyl. '100% Juice' is peak time tackle with incendiary hit hats and loopy synths, 'Slush' is a head melter with more warped lines and elsewhere 'Wonky Workout' does exactly what says on the tin. There is a brilliantly unsettling and eerie vibe to 'Boxed In' and straight up dance floor fire in 'Wiggle Me This.'

Review: A formidable reminder that 2020 hasn't been a complete wash-out, along comes Robert Hood following up his recent EP on Rekids with a brand new album. Three years - and what feels like a lifetime - since his Dekmantel collection Paradygm Shift, where his last LP saw a focused return to his most famous signature of minimal techno, Mirror Man is fully maximal. Digging deep across the spectrum, Hood cooks up a feast that spans emotional score-like beatless pieces ('Through A Looking Glass Darkly'), cloud-leaping, crystalline house music ('Face In The Water'), pranged-out acid that builds and builds without fully letting loose ('Prism') and some of the most wholesome bone-shaking techno he's made in years ('Run Bobby Run', 'Fear Not') As Hood says himself; nothing stops Detroit!

Dark Thoughts (The Afterworld)
Remember This!
Pause 4 Thought With You (feat Garfield King)
Mango Came Round
New Life (E>S>P)
Review: You always know what you're going to get with a Mr G record. No nonsense house music spread over a sizable running time with little need for variation and switch ups. From the moment his new album State Of Flux kicks into action for Rekids, there's an inescapable spirit at work that sounds like it could be quite content being either a peak time banger or a stalking warm up track. That said "Remember This!" could only be made with the heat of the night in mind. "Pause 4 Thought With You" is a real head-snapper with the unusual vocal delivery of Garfield King, while the bassline plods out a mean line in simple synth notes.

Gain Of Function

Shark Rodeo (feat Jeremy Black) (5:55)
Next Level Looseness (5:42)
Review: European techno powerhouse Rekids welcomes back Minneapolis-raised DJ and producer Dustin Zahn for a second album seven years after his last. Gain of Function is a perfect fir for this label with its muscular drums, elastic bass and driving sense of techno warmth. Every track here is economical but never minimal: the way Zahn crafts his sounds means each one makes its own impact, be it a well treated vocal, a hammering kick drum or a serene synth that backlights a track. There are deeper moments like 'Smoking In Silence' next to more tripped out head-fuckery such as 'Shark Rodeo' and it all makes for a fantastic full length.
