Review: 6SISS explores the power and mystery of quasars on this latest release for Micron Audio, a sonic journey through these cosmic giants. The four tracks represent different stages of interaction with a quasar, from the initial observation to a euphoric absorption into its core. 'QUASAR I' features fizzing synths evoking radio waves traveling across space, while 'QUASAR II' brings a bass-heavy intensity, simulating the gravitational pull of these celestial bodies. 'QUASAR III' deepens the mood, illustrating the slow attraction of stars and planets, and 'QUASAR IV' crescendos with euphoric absorption into the quasar's core. 6SISS crafts an abstract, scientific narrative, offering a deep, immersive experience with radiant energy.
Review: Drexciya associate DJ Stingray first made his mark as a solo artist way back in the late 2000s with the 'Aqua Team' and 'Aqua Team 2' EPs, the latter of which was stretched across two slabs of wax and should probably be considered the producer's unofficial debut album. 15 years on from the release of volume one, Stingray has bundled together remastered versions of all of the tracks from both releases and whacked it out as a must-have triple-vinyl reissue. This is classic Motor City electro - with the odd foray into techno from the Drexciya school - all bustling, far-sighted beats, IDM electronics, experimental soundscapes, buzzing club cuts and high-octane underwater workouts. In other words, it's simply essential.
Review: Stingray's Micron Audio carries the clout of its CEO, meaning you know you're going to get only the most uncompromising updates on the electro template. Galaxian is exactly the kind of artist you want to tap up for such duties, and he's sounding on fierce form letting the metallic tones ping around 'Overshoot' with glee. Loka has a captivating, jacking sound which somehow also manages to be supremely deep cover despite its fierce beat. CTRLS, who have enjoyed previous outings on Micron, bring a dense and knotty kind of machine funk to 'Transfer', and 6siss brings a dense maelstrom of synthetic energy to bear on 'React'.
