Review: Belgian bastions Duploc look back over the last decade of resonance with this crucial ten track set. Launching at a time when dubstep was at its most crass commercial EDM-ified peak, the crew have forever maintained their love for the deeper, underground and innovative side of 140 music and this collection is a kindly reminder of that. Highlights are in abundance as an all-star cast of older pioneers and new young disrupters get busy with the boundary blurring; Mungk's 'Mountain' is all about that loose limbed modern jazz swing, Distance's 'Vigalance' is pure abrasive attitude, Ternion Sound get their creep on with 'Tactics' while Juss B flattens us with pure 808 science on 'Can't Sleep'. And that's not even half of it. Here's to another 10 years.
Review: DUPLOC goes big for its tenth-anniversary celebrations by dropping no fewer than ten EPs in ten weeks. To kick off with they are dropping a taster selection of them all with this double 12" featuring the title track from each of the EPs. There will also be a triple pack with a best of the label so far across 40 tracks that show just how definitive it has been in shaping the deep end of the dubstep spectrum. This collection has everything from funky steppers like Ternion Sound's 'Tactics' to the crystalline digi-dub influences of Juss B's 'Can't Sleep'.
Review: The fourth but not quite final instalment of the DUPLOC SELECTS compilation series is a heavy hitting double 12" featuring two tunes from each of the previous four releases. Feonix & A:Grade's "Prumeer" is an early highlight with its spacious swagger and whip-snapping synth sounds depicting a desolate urban landscape, while for a totally different vibe the lush harp ripples of Ourman's "Harpy" is a great escape. With the complete 10-track Chapter III and Chapter IV compilations landing in October and November respectively, think of the final two sides of this release as a fine taster of what to expect.
Review: This double trouble slap of vinyl features two standout tracks from each of the four Duploc Off Limits compilations and they have been pressed at 45 rpm for optimal loudness. Die By The Sword opens with the low-end menace of 'Til Death', Argo layers up old school dial tones with swaggering dub low ends on 'Shakedown' and 11th Hour's 'Move Over' is a dark, heavy dub stepper with grime bars and late night edge. A fitting tribute to DUPLOC's legacy, this drop offers fans a tangible piece of the iconic compilations complete with high-energy grooves defined by precision and clarity.
